Craigslist

I'm posting this here, so that everyone can take a step back and think long and hard before they use or in how they use craigslist. We all know how some of the scummy people sell fake slabbed cards / packs on craigslist to scam the unsuspecting, but that is absolutely nothing compared to this.
Please take the time to think long and hard and consider only doing craigslist transactions in very public areas (such as a mall). A few dollars gained on a sale just isn't always worth the risk.

<< <i>I never have and never will buy or sell on Craigslist. Ebay is bad enough with their criminals... I certainly don't want to meet them in person. >>
Jeff:
You'll get a kick out of this...One of the items I purchased off CL was a vendor's Esskay Hot Dog container from old Memorial Stadium and the guy who was selling it was the grandson of their long time radio voice, Chuck Thompson!.....nothing ventured, nothing gained!
It's a great display item!
As far as Craigslist is concerned, I would never ever sell anything of value on there (>$100).
Wow, that brings back memories. I have no idea how those guys carried the giant metal hot dog tubs up and down the aisles. I have a good friend that was a beer vendor at Memorial Stadium in his heyday. Those guys made a ton of money but deserved every penny.
Tragic and senseless

SWEET!! You could probably still use it to serve hotdogs at parties!
I always wanted one of the letters from the front of the memorial... what did they ever do with that memorial? I know the stadium is in the Chesapeake, but I always wondered what happened with the original stadium front.

Not to get too off topic, but those letters have been leased/loaned to Cal Ripken by the city for $1, for him to eventually display them at the Memorial Stadium replica field at his youth complex in Aberdeen.

It's good to always be packin', but I promise you that it will
not help much if the bad guy gets the drop on you.
I use CL and don't usually allow buyers to come to me. I
meet them at a public place, a bank, or the parking lot of
the cop shop.
Jewelry and electronics attract the risky buyers more than
other categories.
Some large volume CL-sellers have small units at public
storage places where they keep their large items. They
have the buyers pickup there.
I like CL, but it is a bit spooky and potentially dangerous.
It's scary the information folks can get these days, everyone can be a victim.

Storm - You're right. I've read books and numerous articles about self-defense with firearms, so I feel if the time ever comes, I'll know what to do.
The buyers I've had come over, I've screened them very carefully over the phone...to me email wasn't good enough...I wanted to hear their voice and gather judgment on what they say and how they say it. But it wouldn't be a bad idea at all never to do any transactions at all in the home. Despite my precautions, I may have changed my mind and now I think I'll follow some of the good advice given here, and not do any transactions at home - Do it at a public area as advised.
It may be the right thing to do, but it feels like I am doing a drug deal or something.
On the flip side, is there a law against conducting business transactions on private property? I wonder how McDonald's feels as I use their property to conduct clandestine transactions. It all feels awkward, but how else can one do these things safely.
