Repunched date Aussie threepence

While looking through an album today, I spotted this 1924 Australian 3 pence with a repunched 4 in the date. There's a fair amount of separation between the two punches. Is this something that's harder to find, or are repunched digits a fairly common occurrence with this series?

    That's a beautiful coin!!!! I'm not aware of a doubled date on that year and it's not listed in the main pre-decimal varieties book we use down here. I will ask a friend if he is aware of it.

    This reminded me of an article I saw entitled "Plasticine Numismatics" in Australasian Coin and Banknote, September 2003, Jon Saxton. They talk about the 1922 threepence being punched out of the overdated from the 1921 (I think it was the dies that were 'punched'.

    It doesn't mention 1924 much but says "As 1924 was the first year in which the Melbourne Branch of the Royal Mint altered the date on a matrix from a master punch it follows that any die for an alleged 'over-dated' 1922 coin must have been made by the Royal Mint, London"

    Also says "Officially sanctioned re-dating didn't begin until late 1923 in preparation for striking coins for 1924 because the Royal mint sent fully-dated 1923 tools to Melbourne in late 1922...."

    Didn't have time to reread the article this morning but hope this helps. It also says that fewer that 1000 of the 1922/1 overdate threepence exist.
