Canadian Collectors Please- I need your help/advice on selling my collection

Okay, many of you may know for a while I was going to build an MS set of cents (20-36), nickels (22-36) and dollars ( all that cointained silver). Well my colecting goals have changed. I am going to build a TYPE set cent through dollar, 3 of the 5 coins I have (also any suggestions would be appreciated) My sets are PCGS so what I have or what I am going to buy would be PCGS coins, no bashing in ICCS, I just like the PCGS registry sets.

1c- 1925 PCGS MS-63 BN
5c- 1925 PCGS MS-62
10c- (Thinking 1948)
25c- (maybe a 1915, 1921, 1927)
50c- (maybe 1921, LOL I wish 1904, 1905, 1908,1909, 1914, 1931, 0r 1932)
$1- 1947 ML PCGS MS-63 ( would prefer a 1948, but I already have the 47 ML)

So here are my questions,

1)what are the keys or what would you put in the 10,25 and 50c collection.

2) I have extras,all PCGS
1923 1C VF35BN 3 48
1923 1C VF35BN 3 48
1924 1C AU55BN 2 25
1925 1C VF25BN 1 54
1925 1C AU58BN 13 29
1932 1C MS64RB 18 9
1932 1C MS64RB 18 9
1935 1C MS64RB 9 6
1922 5C MS63 37 72
1922 5C AU55 20 167
1923 5C MS64 21 8
1924 5C MS64 35 13
1925 5C AU58 46 32
1928 5C MS64 34 14
1935 5C AU58 12 33
1935 S$1 MS62 74 1575
1936 S$1 MS62 92 657
1937 S$1 MS63 149 103
1938 S$1 MS63 182 80
1951 S$1 MS63 49 139
1959 S$1 MS63 13 32

NCG Sovereign 1911C NGC MS-63
Plus an ICCS 1920 1C MS-62 ?? Says small Trace of red- cer # BA 519 ( I would assume it is BN)
Plus an ICCS 1037 $1 MS 62 cert KI 212

I would like to get rid of the whole lot and not have to sell one by one, is there someone one the board who deals in Canadain that will give me a decent price or would you sell them 1 by 1?

Where is the best place to post them, is there a great BST canadian place I can post?

3) I have not a clue what a fair price is or not, that is why I count on my fellow memebers to help me price them, please.

4) Last thisn I promise- I collect US paper money also, I would love to own a devil face note, any reccomendations on what grade, demonination, if graded by who is the best buy? More imortantly who has good prices on these notes?

Thanks for all of your help guys and gals- Just narrowing the Canadian type set down, still going stong on the Mexican and Cenral America coins and notes so I AM NOT LEAVING THE DARK SIDE!!

I think your choice of coins is good. Many others to choose from, that's for sure.

In regards to your Canadian coins for sale, Canadian coin sales currently are very depressed.

Good date and quality ICCS coins are barely selling at 50% to 60% of Canadian trends.

In my opinion, PCGS graded Canadian coins would even sell for less than that.

Not the news you want to hear, but that's the current reality in the Canadian market.

Canadian coin sales currently are very depressed.

It seems to me they were very strong not too long ago-what happened? Were they overly strong
and have the markets simply come back to earth?

  • I would agree with the "depressed" market comments on Canadian coins with a few exceptions.

If you look at the Heritage auction sales for high quality coins you'll see prices that were double to
triple what I had hoped/expected. As I said earlier I needed 3 Registry set dollars and the least
expensive one went for about double what I had expected to pay for all 3. Maybe I was
unrealistic but all 3 of these coins had populations of 15-20 or more in the grade I was bidding on.

I've also seen some PCGS PL pieces in high grade go for ridiculously high prices on Ebay.

I know, I've been chasing them image
No,no- the kids and the cat are all right honey.
It's just that I got my PCGS grades.

The Canadian market went down the toilet right after the financial crisis in late '08.

Couple this with auctions of ultra high grade material and too few Canadian collectors and it's a recipe for disaster (I think some dealers and collectors were trying to get out 'at the top' of the market).

The Canadian market will absolutely come back, but it may take awhile.

I find the US market is still relatively strong, mainly because there are so many collectors in the US, compared to Canadians.

  • Playing on J&M site I noticed that PCGS and ICCS coins, same date and grade are selling for almost exactly the same price. At this point I may sell the whole lot or if prices ared own, why not finish the sets out cheaper and hold on to them. I guess it will depends on the prices I get.

Also looking at the prices, compared to the resources I have, prices don't seem depressed to me??

As long as what you are selling and what you are buying are both part of the same "market," then you should be OK. Your sales will be lower, but so will your purchases. At least that is the way its *supposed* to work!
  • Now I just need to find a dealer who has a PCGS dime, quarter and half that fit in the type set profile, then we are good to go. Wento one of the big sites from Canada and no 1948 dimesimage. Maybe I need to come up with some more options.

What would you put in your type set key wise. I was trying to stay in the 1900's + just based on what I already have?
  • 1948 dimes aren't usually that tough to find, so I wouldn't give up yet.
