Question regarding encased uncirculated Topps Retired Autographs

These cases often become scratched and I was curious to see if anyone thought it would decrease the value of the cards if they were removed from their holders??

I would say definately (sp?) decrease. I have broken tons of that stuff (03, 04 and 05)
Why is it so hard to keep them from getting scratched? You could easily just put them
in a postcard baggie. That's what I did. Never a scratch.

I busted a couple Paul ONeill 04 Topps retired Auto's, had them graded and pulled a PSA 9 and PSA 10. I also pulled a 03 uncirculated O'Neill auto that I had graded and came back a PSA 10. I could care less about the value though of being left in the case or taken out of the case, but I much prefer the cards in PSA holders to the holders Topps supplied.

I have several J.R. Richard and Al Oliver's that I wouldn't hesitate to break out of their Topps case. Now if I had some of the tougher, higher dollar players I'd think twice.
Just as Matt said, I would rather they sit in a PSA holder then the original Topps holder.

I would only buy them if they came in the original case. I have had to return a few in the past for this reason. If you have extras from 2004 please let me know.
    Looking for 77 cloth 9s and 10s.

I have a near-complete set of the 2003 Topps Retired Autographs, and have absolutely no problem keeping them in the Topps holders.

I simply put each card in a "team bag" (smaller than a graded-card bag). they fit perfectly.

short answer, yes. If you ever plan on moving them, they'll be more desirable in the original slabs. Putting them in a team bag or some other baggie will keep them scratch-free.

I'm with Matt, though - I've liberated several of my Butlers from the Topps slab. Some I've kept raw in my Butler box, and a couple of them went in for grading. One pulled a nice 10, which is the only self-submitted 10 I've ever done.
