*update purchased*Question about this Koufax UDA auto photo.

I've been looking at one of these signed photo's for quite awhile now and am wondering if I should jump at this opportunity from cardboard legends from ebay, seems to be a "limited to 32" version of the photo with Upper Deck authentication. Upper Deck also offers the signed photo without the "limited" version, wondering if this is an exclusive to cardboard legends on ebay?

I will call the guy to find the details however wanted to see what others thought about this offering.

Would appreciate your opinions and estimate on what my bid price should be.

*Edit to include explanation from Mike at Cardboard legends*

Apparently Koufax signed over with Steiner for exclusive signing rights, thus Upper Deck was "pissed" and sold off a bunch of Koufax signed material.
Mike apparently purchased all 32 of these inscribed versions (Koufax doesnt like to inscribe is what Mike says)

They've sold 20 of the 32 so about 10 remaining....i'm chomping at the bit, but can't think of a price.
Upper Deck no longer sells these nor baseball related signed memorabilia it looks like.

Here is the version that Steiner is now selling for $799:

Steiner - Sandy Koufax signed 16x20 no hitter

The photo is cropped slightly different in the Steiner version:

  • Very cool item. I've been looking for a nice signed Koufax picture as well but the price usually turns me away. $779 turns me away from this one as well, but if you were able to negotiate a good deal please post or PM as I'd be interested to know.

do you love something specific about the size or inscription? You can get a nicely signed 8x10, with PSA/DNA for about $150-. 16x20s are bigger, for sure, but they are harder to display, bulky to ship, and fewer people are interested in buying them. I'm just not sure why something that is larger is worth 5x the price. The value of the photo is not that more-

    Just my $0.02.

Also -- FWIW, I put no value in the limited edition of 32 thing. It's not like there are not similar Koufax signed photos, and most collectors will not place any premium valuation on how many were signed.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

I'll provide an update, I ended up making a deal with Mike from cardboard legends on the phone when I called him.

Sure I paid much more than other comparable Koufax auto'd photos, but this particular photo has a lot of meaning to me from an artistic and symbolic standpoint, no crowd in the background and the man Sandy Koufax, it's very peaceful just the way Sandy likes to conduct business.

$500 delivered and I didnt tell you so... if you end up calling Mike and making an offer.
I already tried $400, we couldnt agree and we hung up the phone, Mike called me back 5 seconds later and we made a deal.

Considering how much Sandy Koufax charges for his auto's with his rights being with Steiner now it's not such a bad deal.

I got several inquiries about this item, the best google search price i've seen was from amazon.com listing at $550 however they are all out of stock at the moment (UDA is done with Koufax so it likely won't restock)

Steiner has them at $799 and i've seen others range to $1099.

These are for the Steiner or UDA non inscribed versions.

You can only pick up the UDA /32 inscribed version from Mike at Cardboardlegends it seems.

Just an FYI for those who are interested in the item.

nice item. I prefer the larger size photo and the inscription is nice too. I find it nicer to showcase several larger pieces and really do it right then to have a lot of smaller items
  • Might be a dumb question, but why isn't anyone in the stands in the picture?

It is odd that no one is in the bleachers, according to the baseball almanac the game had 29,797 in attendance.
