  • why is this being bumped by the OP here? This belongs over on the buy/sell boards.
  • Am I wrong, or did the winner of the auction get a really good deal?? Seems as though !

The Carl Hubbell alone is a $250-$300 card......I didn't look up averages for the others, but it doesn't seem to be a fantastic deal.....
  • The 1937 O-pee-chee Feller is a bit RARE! Along with the tough ott Red version playball

Always a bit odd that random lots seem to pop up on the auction houses . The person that auctioned this lot could have done better on ebay.. Imho

Those are all neat vintage cards image

    The SK Hubbell is $250+
    The OPC Feller is $500+
    The WWG Medwick is $200+
    The Goudey Cochrane is $100+
The Heads Up Gehringer is $75+
The Play Ball Dickey is $150+
    The Goudey Red Ott ??
    The Tatoo Orbit Lyons ??

I'd say the buyer got a decent deal, and the seller probably should have sold it in pieces on Net54 or eBay.

I'd give $400 for the Hubbell and $400 for the Medwick...

Just curious Donato...why didnt you bid when the auction was going on? Did you miss the cutoff?

I'd be livid if I sent those cards to REA and they lumped them all into one lot. Even an amateur seller would know that they would bring way more individually than they would in a mixed group from various sets.

I hear ya Lee....I thought the Wilson Franks should have been separate as well!! There was a PSA 9 (OC) for crying out loud mixed in with some mid grades....and the auction didn't really make any mention of that card in particular!!!

    Wilson Franks

That card in a '7' last sold for over $3,000!!!!

Lee ... same thing happened to me when I was forced to sell my collection ... EXCEPT on a MUCH larger scale! I sold thru Mastro as I got a good deal on the commission. HOWEVER (and I'm sorry for repeating this, as I have told this story quite a few times on these boards in the past), they did the same thing to SO MANY of my lots that real nice low pop cards were stuck in with other commons ... higher graded stars stuck in with mid grades, TOO MANY unopened packs from the 50s, 60s, 70s lumped in together as one lot, etc etc etc. I complained quite a bit but to no avail.

I wish I would have known about these boards when I sold. I would have gotten tens of thousands of dollars more if I sold to you guys and on eBay. I have collected for years but never sold a large collection before. I THOUGHT the large auction houses were the way to go. I learned the hard way.

I believe the only way I would consign to a large auction house is if I had a SINGLE item that was very valuable.

Can't consignors choose how their cards are auctioned?
  • MorgothMorgoth Posts: 3,950 ✭✭✭
Not really, unless you are a huge buyer or consigner with them. They will basically tell you they do what they think is best and have more experience than you.

The truth is its much easier for them to lump lots due to higher single auction sales, not having to write up and list more descriptions keeping their catalogs smaller.

Yea....however, if I was the consignor of those Wilson Franks, I would be HIGHLY upset, as I could have gotten more for the one card alone than the entire lot of 5 brought!

REA had way too many lots not to have to lump some stuff together like this. It's not ideal (ideal would be going to 2 auctions a year, and we all know Rob is reading this!) but I"m sure it was disclosed to the consignor, and I'm just as sure that having it in a huge hobby event like this pulled in a few bidders that might have missed it otherwise.

Doug, as least you got paid. It took months and the intervention of another message board moderator to get Masgendary to pay me, and others had similar stories. And in their case it didn't matter what was written in the contract, as they ignored it and did what they wanted with the lots.

Given that Donato is looking for the winner of a specific lot I don't think this is the wrong venue. The BST board seems to have more modern stuff, and I suspect many of the board members that do bid and win in REA probably don't look at that section often, if at all.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • Like I mentioned above the buyer of the cards could easily make a nice profit on the cards. Me personally would cherish those cards. image

Donato - If you e-mail REA at info@robertedwardauctions.com about the lot (items from the lot) you're interested in, they will forward your e-mail on to the winning bidder. They're very accomodating that way. Good luck.

Griff ... you are SO right! Some of the checks they sent out BOUNCED ... one of mine did, but I called and busted balls until I got a new one ... I was one of the lucky ones, as I heard some people never got their money.

I concur. As a matter of fact IMO this is the correct forum for such an inquiry.
