RIP Ernie Harwell

USA Today link

fantastic broadcaster, and more importantly a good man. I only had the pleasure of listening to him from time to time, but it was always a treat.

Bought an auto copy of his bio (hardback) for .50 last year at a thrift shop. Need to read it now.

    RIP Ernie Harwell

The guy was 92 and lived a wonderful life that any one of us would have felt blessed for.

When the weather was right I could pick up Tigers games in my bedroom when I was a kid. I always liked listening to him call a game, he made me feel like I was sitting right there at the stadium eating a hot dog.
    RIP Mr. Harwell.

The sports world has not seen a better human being.

We've lost George Kell, Mark the Bird, and now Ernie in a short time. Those 3 alone have provided a lifetime of good memories for Detroiters. We have been truly blessed.

I was very fortunate to meet Ernie Harwell in 1992 and he was a joy to talk to. He'll be missed.

Costas did one of those hour long sit down interviews on the MLB Network with Harwell a few months ago. I'm sure they will be re-running it over the next day or two. I highly recommend checking that out. I love Scully and Uecker, but Harwell is right there in my top 3.

I actually saw that special last week on MLB network - what a great man to listen to talk about his life in baseball. It was taped during last year's World Series and he said he did not think he'd see the beginning of the 2010 season - I'm glad he did get to see one more opening day.
