Question about reviewing a card already in a psa slab and get a grade bump

Hi Sorry to ask this if its been answered already. However I am curious and searched for my answer and could not find it. Sorry if this is a repeat thread.

I am wondering if anybody has had any success with this?

I have a card in a PSA 9 holder. Upon closer inspection the card really looks like it has a good shot at being a PSA 10. The card is a sensitive issue so cracking the holder for resub is not an option as it more then likely will get damaged on the cracking process. I know sounds stupid for PSA to bump a 9 to a 10 when it has been already been slabbed a 9. My question is has anyone gotten a bump through a review? Had a PSA 9 slabbed card bumped to a PSA 10? Is it possible?

Just curious. If it is possible I might try this because there a is 4-5 thousand dollar difference between a psa 9 and a psa 10 on the card.

    I recently sent in 15 cards for review. 7 cards got a .5 bump and 3 got a full 1 bump. I was really surprised. I think a high value card has just as good a chance as another to get a bump if it's that nice. The chances of going from a 9 - 10 is much harder then a 8 going to a 9 because there's not many differences between a 9 and 10 but there's usually a big difference between a 8 and 9 and that's why I believe they added the .5. Having that much of a money difference between the grades you can be assured that card with get extra attention at PSA. Good luck

    good job Mike! Are any of those bumps Bossy cards or 9s to 10s?

    It is possible for a 9 to get bumped to a 10 but not to a 9.5 (that grade does not exist)

    I've never heard it happening before (not to say that it has not) I have heard 8's becoming 9's

    though. Good luck you have nothing really to lose, it can't get a lower grade. It could get damaged

    in the process though (from what I have recently heard)

    Sorry but forgot to ask. How does the review process work? They review and if it gets a bump or downgrade they slab it in the new grade?

    Mike all your reviews were cards in a psa holder?

    All my cards were from PSA holders. They were also from the pre .5 era. Three of the cards jumped from 8-9. If you're subbing under the special you won't get it back for the full 45 days. I'm thinking your card is a high dollar card and you will send it in for express service which I do with high value cards because the service is great.

    After they receive the card for review they determine if it needs to be upgraded. If they upgrade it they crack the slab and put it in the new holder with the same certificate number. This helps recycle the numbers. Like Steve said the only thing you need to worry about is damage from the cracking. They will not admit they were wrong and lower the cards grade. Think how mad people would be if a card was lowered in grade.

    Mullins..no 9's to 10's for me. there's only 25 total and I have a couple that I've bought but no matter if I buy unopened boxes and packs and sub the best still no 10's for me. Nothing new on the Bossy front either

    Thank you everyone for the info. I am seriously considering it. I think I might wait until I go to the national to do the review. This way I cut out the whole transit thing through USPS.

    Mike, good job, I think I might try to get another Bossy PSA 9 230 and PSA 8 161 for my personal collection...this '81 PSA sticker project has me a bit tied up financially at the moment though.

    Chris, I saw your Gretzky on eBay but didn't know it was from a review! Congrats, that's a major bump!

    Reviewing a PSA 9 for a PSA 10 is pretty common. Success depends upon how the card presents in the holder. I've reviewed about 40-50 PSA 9's over the years and I've gotten about 20% of them into PSA 10's. Sometimes, it takes two or three trips. Sometimes they need to be released.

    I'm guessing you're thinking about reviewing your new DJ... Good luck! I'm 0-6 on that one and my only 10 was a self-sub.
