I think this Pillar Dollar is just what Ive been thinking about. A nice, fairly circulated coin, a chunk of old heavy Mexican Silver. Hopefully its not a fake, all Im going by is sheer ignorance and the fact that modern fakes just cannot get this level of wear, nicks and 'look'. RYK seemed to think it had been cleaned, but for 263 years old...I guess you may have to live with that. All in All, a pretty nice coin I think for $170. Now..dont worry, Im not gonna go for the entire date and mint mark set here image

    A very nice addition to your history collection. You can now show what circulated in our early colonies. Now you need a Taler to show and tell how our unit of money got its name.

    Yes Im pretty pleased with this piece. An interesting design from a country which was a true World power in its day...clearly the design is intended to evoke images of World dominance.

    These were made on a screw press, I presume? Does anyone have any kind of an idea what the average mintages of these were per year? I understand this particular year is common, but does that mean mintages in the millions, or what?

    Its really interesting to think that this is the money Ben Franklin, George Washinton and Tom Jefferson would have been familar with, and possibly used.

    Great looking Piller Dollar, Ambro, I have a couple of them myself. They are very interesting coins and have alot of history to them.
