Toughest HOFers from the 70s

Thought I'd do the 70s. While relatively plentiful in comparison to 60s/50s, these HOFers are really tough in comparison to other cards in their sets.
I'm excluding 70 and 71 b/c they're all tough
I'll start with one from each year
1972 Aaron IA
1973 Morgan
1974 Aaron
1975 Gibson gets my vote
1976 Brett
1977 Munson
1978 Ryan
1979 Winfield

Hard to argue with any of these. I've never even seen a really nice 75 Gibson.

are we only talking mainstream issues?

If not, the 1972 Venezuelan Nolan Ryan sticker, the 1972 Puerto Rican Winter League Schmidt and pretty much every Hall of Famer from the 1977 Venezuelan Topps set would count.

Also -- pretty much all 1974 O-Pee-Chee Hall of Famers
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

I know he is not a Hall of Famer but he is darn close and it took me forever to find this card.

The 1975 Topps Nolan Ryan is a LOT tougher than the 1978 image

I also might add the 1976 Topps Dennis Eckersley and Jim Rice.

The 1976 OPC Nolan Ryan is the toughest of the Ryan cards to find centered...I don't have acess to the pop report, but last time I did (I believe) the highest graded was a PSA 9 OC. There were no PSA 9's...

The best one I saw, I bought... cheaply. image

I'm happy with the card and it's as nice as I've seen including 9s. My experiences with the 75s and HOFs - Rice, Schmidt and Gibson... thou 9s seem illusive (maybe more so than should be) on Ryan, Fingers and Kaline AS.

Why are the cards that are being talked about so tough to find in higher grades?

A lot of them are tough to find centered and a poorly centered card has little chance of grading high than a 7 (9 OC). This could be because of where the card is located on the uncut sheet. I have a 1975 Topps sheet and the Nolan Ryan card (which is near impossible to find centered) is indeed located on the far right edge of the sheet. Why this would make a difference I really don't know but I do know that there is a correlation between sheet location and centering.

Also I would like to add all of the 1971 Topps set to the list and 1971 Topps Greatest Moments

I have also noticed that the 1975 topps Lou Brock HL #2 card is difficult to obtain in a high grade.
