I want to sell an '80 Topps set...

So I have the set, been in a box for just over 30 years. All cards are there. I want to sell it, but I want to send in the Henderson rookie for grading before putting the set up for sale. Would say it is at least an 8. When the Henderson card comes back graded, I will put the set up for sale. After all it is the highlight of the set.

Good idea to go this route? Thanks.

If you dont think you can get a 9 or 10 on the Henderson, you are more than likely wasting your time and money.
  • Post a picture of the card! and the star Hof cards as well ... Ex. Ryan , Smith...

  • Yes, I would say it may not be even necessary to get the Hendo graded if it's a good looking card. I agree. I would take a picture of the cards in the box, then do high-quality scans on the key cards (Henderson, Ryan, Brett, Rose, etc) so the buyer can judge the quality of those cards. Yes, I know I'm only into OPC, however I have seen 1977 sets sold with nice scans of the stars and HOFs ($125 for the set) and without ($65 for the set). So if the buyer knows what he's getting, he'd be willing to pay more usually.

  • It sounds as if the buyer would be paying for the potential of mint 9's. Plenty of upside. If I have certain cards graded or don't show any scans, the potential goes down a bit.

I do appreciate your feedback and to all who have answered.
  • You're assuming the buyer is buying cuz he wants to get the cards graded? There are lots of set buyers who just want the set and are not trying to win the lottery. Vis-a-vie "collecting."

I agree..............if the RH is not getting a 9, it really isn't going to be productive for you to get it graded.
