would you be alarmed if you got this ebay message?

And it was the first you've heard from the seller since you paid $3500 for his card 3 weeks ago?

I think I need to brush up on my paypal rights and probably ask Storm for advice (again)

I would file the claim before it is too late. I think you only have a month.....

For that kind of doe i would have been antsy way before three weeks with no contact. What Bobby said.

You still have plenty of time.

If it gets to 30-days, I would think about filing.

    ...........

You have 45-days on PP, and "almost forever" on the CC.

I noticed that, but with PP in the mix it really does not matter.

i would first email the seller, find out what the tracking number is and see what happens. maybe telling him you work for the USPS might help (not sure if you can do that). if the tracking number doesnt turn out good then file a claim ASAP.

  • If the seller is outside the US then it's just a language thing. I buy and sell alot to Canadiens and alot of them speak little English forget about writing it. See where the items location is.

I'm nervous, the grammar did bother me too. If I get the card I'll show it here, I'm hoping the reward more than equals the risk. But I didn't figure on the stress.

tracking # shows electronically submitted but that's all.

Mike you're exactly right. The grammar is probably just a translation thing.

Are you kidding me??? $3.5k and no card for THREE WEEKS!!!!. What on earth are you waiting for?

Contact eBay like NOW and file a complaint big time. If you used a credit card when you paid (assuming of course via paypal), I'd put them on notice that there appears to be something in the wind.

When the dust settles, I'd nuke his feedback, this is outrageous!

A long time for an expensive card.

  • Red-Flag-A-Rama here. If I waited 3+ weeks for a $3500 card I wouldn't be alarmed I'd be enraged.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

If it's not a scam, sounds like through his own comment that he didn't actually own the card, bought the card sometime after you paid him, and for whatever reason he was waiting for the card to arrive so that he could ship it to you. Perhaps he used your money to pay for items from previous sales, and is now using other's money from his new sales to pay for this card from this sale. Also, there are ways to fool buyers with a tracking number.

So yes you're right to be alarmed, but like Storm stated, you've still got some time, so hopefully it works out okay.

Never contact Ebay first if Paypal is in the mix. Contact PP first and if you get nowhere with them if you paid with a CC

    take it up with them.

    Good for you.

The canada post updated and he did drop off a package with my tracking number, so at least there's "something" coming.

No it's not an ichiro toilet. Not sure if that was supposed to be funny?

It was an impulse buy for a gift for my father in law. He's moving to NM in a couple months and it was kind of a going away present. It was $3427 plus $30 shipping.

I'm not going to file an INR with paypal. I think Storm taught me once that if I file an INR and something comes in the mail then I can't change it to a SNAD. The seller's probably good but doesn't understand that 3 weeks is a long time to ship a $3500 item with no communication beforehand.

I think it was probably a consignment sale. Maybe one of his customers wanted to sell the card and he didn't want to buy it so he listed it for him instead. That's what I took from his email.

Buyer's remorse and I haven't seen the card yet image

I would axe the deal and move onto better things.....I agree with the other poster - sounds like he was short selling and then having a hard time covering his position.
  • mtcardsmtcards Posts: 3,340 ✭✭✭
Sounds like he was selling something for more than he could buy it somewhere else and once he sold it, had to wait for the item to come in.

I'm not as alarmed now. Apparently the holder was cracked and he sent it in for a replacement instead of sending it with a cracked one.

That sounds a lot better. Communication could have been better but I'm not as concerned any more. Now I can't wait to have it, and I guess I might have a hard time giving it away when the time comes image

Sounds like it's going to work out for you. Really don't understand why sellers can't communicate better with buyers?
  • divecchiadivecchia Posts: 6,688 ✭✭✭✭✭
My original concern would have been the communication part, but now it sounds like the seller is communicating with you so I would not worry.

I would file with PP and CC. No need to wait in my opinion. Three weeks is an unreasonable delay.
  • onebamafanonebamafan Posts: 1,318 ✭✭
I'll be convinced once you post pics of said received card.
  • jimq112jimq112 Posts: 3,511 ✭✭✭
Card arrived, the old slab was cracked and the seller had it reholdered. Probably headed to PSA or SGC for a better holder with probably a lower number on it.

    Jim:

    Nice addition.

Hoping you get a number on it and not an "A" or "AUTHENTIC."

    Good luck.
  • jim, what's the back look like? the front looks like a PSA 2.5 or 3.
  • jimq112jimq112 Posts: 3,511 ✭✭✭
The back is ugly. Stained all over, you can read the print but it's not attractive. There's a spot of paper loss also.

I think PSA calls it a 1, SGC a 10. I'm fine with that, it's going in a raw set with just a handful of other graded cards.

Anyway I think the risk was worth the reward and if he likes it that's all that really matters.

Thanks for the nice words and good advice!
