I've been complaining about the review process taking so long. I sent in a 50 card sub that had 35 raws and 15 for review. I've never subbed cards for review so I decided to try 15. The raws came back super fast and the reviews took 44 days. Well they have finally popped and It was worth the wait. I'll never complain about the wait time which is clearly stated by PSA.

Some of these are really low pop cards and there's a 1 of 1 in there. I know they're hockey but everyone can appreciate 10 out of 15 bumps!!!!

Wow great job. I only hope it goes that well with my 68's that I sent in for a Review. If it is as nice as yours you will hear one happy man.

    Slipping?

Not sure I understand that, if these cards were graded years ago and received .5 bumps how is that slipping?

    << <i>What were the original grades? >>

My guess is they were all originally 8s, and 7 of them bumped to 8.5 while 3 of them bumped a full grade to 9.
  • All the cards were 8's and they were graded before the .5 grade. As far as my 1979 Topps Hockey cards go any card with a certificate # lower then 14,000,000 was before the new .5 was added. I'll probably never be able to get near this percentage again but it was still cool to see some bumps even if the deck was stack in my favor this time.

When they say 45 days they mean 44-45 days!

So does it mean PSA is slipping or the OP has a good eye?

    Or is lucky?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

    Oh, congrats on the bumps.

  • Hey mike22y2k, just curious as to why you think cert#'s < 14000000 are pre-half point grading. Please see this article to determine pre-half point subs. My understanding is the first three numbers of the cert # identifies the grader...somebody please correct me if I am wrong about that.

Hope this helps you find other cards to sub!

  • Thank you for the article. It helps me to try to figure this out. I've subbed most my own cards of the same year through the years and maybe I received the same grader all the time because the cards appear in sequence. There is a debate going on whether the first couple of #'s are for the grader. I'm very interested now and I'm going to have to figure this out. Thanks again.

  • Bob thanks for bringing this to my attention about the .5 grading system. Looking back over 3 full years of my own subs I've found that all my cards are in sequence from smallest certificate # being the oldest going up with the date in sequence. Looking through my set the numbers are not in sequence. Some of the oldest cards in my set are in the 82 Million range while my submissions are from 8.2 Million right up to my most recent sub with numbers as high as 16 Million.

Knowing from where I got most my cards that I didn't submit I'd have to say the first few digits seem to be assigned to the submitter then the grader. The big dealers probably get a number assigned to start with so they don't bump up against another. Little guys like me get grouped in with all the other small guys and we just get the next number in sequence.
