The Celebrated 1951 Bowman #305 Willie Mays RC - what's in the background?

What is in the background of the famed and beautiful 1951 Bowman Willie Mays Rookie card? I have long wondered. My brother owns two lower grade Mays RCs and he is not sure either. The rope at the bottom right lends a clue and probably disqualifies a giant tree trunk back there. Is Willie taking batting practice and is this a tarp behind Willie to keep the pitched ball from travelling by?
I don't own a Mays RC - can someone with access to a scan add one? Thanks.

Thank you Bob.....I've been wondering about that lately myself!

<< <i>i beg to differ....that look of determination on a young man's face, the grip of the bat.....IMO, the background being referenced here is rather meaningless other than to create a setting....love him or not, this card is ALL Mays. >>
Agree. Little weird things like unique backgrounds on old cards kinda add to their charm IMHO. Always thought the Willie Rookie was a good lookin' card.

<< <i>Respectfully... after reading your posts I conclude that the card is still fugly. >>
No worries, as they say, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
