Card shops in Des Moines?

Heading to Des Moines next week, the wife has to take a class all day Tuesday, anyone know of any card shops or anything for me to do all day?

Don't know of any card shops, but the Bob Feller Museum in Van Meter Iowa is only ~20 miles west of Des Moines.

    Edited to add:

I just went to signingshotline.com and found listings for some autograph signings. Rollie Fingers will be there on April 17th, and Feller and Earl Weaver are scheduled to be signing autographs on April 24th.

Can't help with card shops, but in the summer of '97 I passed out on a picnic bench in the rest stop outside of Cedar Rapids.

The Rookie on University Ave. is OK, depending on what you are looking for. Lots of modern wax, some vintage cards. There wasn't much in the way of high grade raw vintage last time I was there and no graded cards that I remember.

The Bob Feller Museum is just a little bit west of Des Moines in Van Meter. Worth the trip and Rollie Fingers and possibly Bob himself will be there this weekend.

Next weekend on the 24th I think, Bob is definitely there with Doug Harvey and Earl Weaver. I'm going that weekend myself.

  • Didn't know about the Bob Feller museum, I think I will be checking that out.
  • Bob Feller museum closed Monday-Wednesday, go figure, that's the three days I am down here.
  • Anybody know what year they reprinted a 1972 Topps Carlton Fisk rookie, stopped in a pawn shop on the way down and had me fooled until I saw the word "reprint" on the back, the pawn shop guy didn't know it was a reprint until I pointed it out to him, he said, "I guess I paid too much for that card".
Also, looks to be about seven shops within 20 miles of me, going to spend time store hopping tomorrow.
