pcmsports.com - anyone buy some autos from them? Mine came back unauthentic...

Both of mine purchased a few years ago came back unauthentic, and I have a few more I didn't submit. Website still seems operational and up to date. I emailed them, but curious if there are thoughts on how to handle this?
Here are pics of the 2 balls.

And yes - I know better now image Thankfully I didn't spend much since it was before the players became bigger names.
Looking for rare Randy Moss rookies and autos, as well as '97 PMG Red Football cards for my set.

Just because they failed, doesn't mean their forged.

True - but the only two I subbed from that company failed, which seemed strange. The longoria looks a little off compared to a few on-card auto's (in the Longoria part). And forging up and coming guys is a great idea - people like me don't think that they would be fakes image

Why do you say that? I'm trying to learn about how they work....

Fair question. Because unless you saw it signed, no way to truly know. They go by exemplars. Maybe Lincecum signed while walking, maybe they were in a bad mood. Maybe that was the 500th auto they signed that day. Any little thing like that can cause something to look a little off.

Now, don't get me wrong, I am not against authentication. I submit to PSA and JSA for PC and sale, I just think that attitude that various people on both extremem sides of the argument (what they say is law vs they are all crooks) is assinine. I believe they are good for the hobby for more common, more popular names. They probably get those right more often than not and I would prefer them get it wrong in this manner (saying its not real) than wrong in the other direction. What makes me uncomfortable about authentication is the obsure, random names that I have slabbed. With all due respect to the person on this site that submitted it, I find it hard to believe that PSA has enough exemplars of the Fat Boys (just an example) to make a educated decision.

  • Then, why don't they say "inconclusive" instead of passing it off as a fake? I realize they make no money that way, but if there is a possibility it's real, shouldn't it be left at that?

Sometimes, I'm sure there are obvious fakes, which they can grade easily, but just because they don't have a comparative example, it doesn't mean it should be non-authentic.

Well they never come out and say 'fake'...sorry if that was how my post came off. They something like "likely not authentic". But to the subber and for potential sales, it's the same effect. They may also have an 'Inconclusive"...I'm not sure.

I don't know what you mean by "they make no money that way". There is no credit given if a signature doesn't pass, they still get your money.

    From Spence

    "Inconclusive Letter (INC)
In rare cases a clear conclusion as to the autograph's authenticity is unable to be determined. In such circumstances, after exhaustive review it is not possible for the authenticators to reach a consensus with any level of confidence; therefore no opinion can be rendered. If your submitted item falls into this category, a credit voucher is issued in the full amount of the fee, which can be used towards a future submission. "

Sure, they get your money in the long-run, but not like if they flatly reject it.

iahawks55 - bgs/spence may work that way, but PSA/DNA you pay regardless of the outcome. perhaps they refund for ones that are completely inconclusive, but these were 'likely not authentic'...so I have that going for me. And these two players certainly have enough samples out there that I am inclined to believe PSA...although I had to chuckle at the Fat Boys certification.

Not sure either about the inconclusive, but with both (PSA and JSA) you pay if pass or fail. As they have performed there service, doesn't matter if the results are good or bad.

Both are good early versions of each of the players signature.

PCM Sports, btw , is a legit memorabilia company with Minor and Major League players on their roster.
