Can trimmed cards be authenticated by PSA?

I was told that a card showing evidence of being trimmed cannot be holdered. If so, what would cause someone to authenticate a beautiful vintage card? Obviously a higher grade (i.e. 7 or 8) on a prewar card would be more valuable than an A on said card. I always assumed that when i saw a seemingly beautiful vintage card authenticated, that it was due to being trimmed or maybe restoration? Anyone with more info. than me, which probably qualifies the entire board, is encourged to enlighten me. thanks, Tom

It seems like PSA will do this for bigger cards - like a 52 Mantle, T206 Cobb, etc... However, unlike SGC, who allows you to request a card being deemed authentic, I don't think PSA will just do this for any card.

I wish PSA would have a service like this for more than just the highest dollar cards
