  • If you don't mind, are these tough to come by?

    Ebay Link

I like the card backs; much better than Topps.

48 pack to a box and 5 cards a pack. Unopened boxes are very tuff to find. Cards are on white cardboard and cut like OPC cuts with a lot of OC cards. These are smaller than the regular Topps cards. These are great cards but I’m bias towards them!

Here is a link to what they look like.
  • I remember these, there were wax boxes and factory sets. The backs are surely nicer than the norm. There is a set asking $65 right now. There isn't much of a premium except to keep the box sealed. Any crazy sales of PSA 10's?

No factory sets of these. A wax box comes with 4 collector boxes you can use to hold the cards. That is what you see when you see the small boxes that look like factory sets. PSA 10 Payton went for 180+ two weeks ago. Otherwise not too much to talk about but that might be because not to many are building the set.

Wow, those are really cool. I may be interested in a box.

Is this case eligible for the Bing Cashback to get the price lower?

How rare are these? How many have been graded? Any one care to share some population report data or VCP info. Thanks!

POP Report - Population Home > Football Cards > 1987 > Topps American / UK
    7.5 - 2
    8Q - 0
    8 - 160
    8.5- 7
    9Q -4
    9 -185
    10 -51
    Total - 435

  • I really don't know alot about the regular '87's let alone these but just taking a quick look through these the 1,000 yard cards are different and it seems to me that the Walter Payton card may be the key card of the whole 88 card set

    VCP Walter payton
    PSA 9 $52.34
    PSA 10 $190.39

But these just don't seem to come up very often graded and sales are few and far between so these numbers may be from a few collectors that just had to have the card and not what you may see once more graded hit the market

1987 was not a good year as far as key Rc's go either
but it does have Jim Kelly's 1st year NFL card

Love the look of these but I just wish the price was lower

Question - Is this not considered a factory set?

I bought a bunch of these when I was in the UK. They are nice!

Are they sealed boxes? How easy is it to search packs, and were they sequenced?
Kiss me once, shame on you.

Meant to add that I'm just wondering. I thought you got a set in this box.

Also, I bought mine in 1989. Sold a couple. Wish I bought more. They are nice. The backs are nice. I like the 88 baseball too. I think the baseball was available at Kay-B-Toy too. I am
    not sure though.

Aconte, is it possible yours are the 1989 variety? I know those were only distributed in box form and are only 33 cards.
  • aconteaconte Posts: 2,054 ✭✭✭
    No these are 1987.

Myset is 88 cards with a "Frig" Perry puzzle on the back of the last few.

The box shown by aconte is a "collector box". The wax boxes hold 48 packs and are sealed with 4 yellow collector boxes. There is a red sticker on the clear plastic surrounding the box stating "4 FREE American football collector boxes in this pack. Give a collector box to any buyer of 10 packs".
There are no factory sets with these.

Nathaniel1960 - The boxes are sealed. If you get your hands on a pack you can search them and they are sequenced. From the boxes I opened I have guessed that half the set is double printed. These are like OPC where they are OC and have ruff cuts.

    Nascar360,

Thanks for the update. If I had the $$$ available I would go in. This is a cool item.

Good luck with whoever buys in!

One last question, in one of the pictures there is a open collector box. I take it that is for display only? Or is that what the packs are held in?

Cards will only fit in the collector box which is good because the cards are smaller than the normal 1987 Topps cards. The box that looks like my icon is the wax box which holds the packs. The 4 collector boxes are outside under the box. I can add a scan if you want from the one I have at home.

Sure! Would love to see it when you get a chance.
