Hockey Heads, can you help? Gretzky OPC Rookie

Hi,

A friend of mine that I play cards with mentioned he had hockey cards from his childhood in Canada and I asked to see them. They were in a photo album (not the kind with the adhesive, but the kind you slip the pic into) and here is one of them (well, there are actually two, but this is the best).

My question is how does one know about the difference between wear on the sides and the way OPC has cut the card. I know the Baseball version can be pretty hairy. Any help and grade opinions would be appreciated.

The 79s have every type of cut you can imagine. That looks typical for a rough cut 79 OPC.

I agree and I agree and it's definitely one of the best centered I've ever seen. The only thing is that upper right corner. Is it a little bent?
  • flip for it ... it's a beauty, eh ?

PSA 5.5, I'm guessing. Looks like it will grade.

  • Nice card. Assuming there are no bends in the corner (upper right?) it looks like a 6 to me. Maybe even a point higher if the grader had a bender the night before.
Collecting HOF RC's in hockey, baseball, football and basketball. A fool's errand some have said.

  • The card is centered nicely. Probably a PSA 5. The chipping is the concern and looking at the back side of the card the corners are bent. Still any 1979 OPC Gretzky is worth slabbing. This is the money card of all modern cards. Will sell on Ebay first auction at a great price everytime. Always a great find.

Luv the centering/eye appeal even with the ding on upper right corner. Very nice card!

That card could pull an 8 if those corners are a result of the cut.

The upper right does look a little soft though.
