Stephen Strasburg Spring Training Debut Game Worn Autographed Jersey--$2000?

My son went to the Red Sox/Nationals exhibition game in Washington, DC yesterday, and they had a silent auction for the jersey Strasburg wore in his spring training debut, autographed with authentication from the team. The jersey sold for $2,000. I don't know much about game-worn jerseys, but that seemed like a lot of money for that piece. Any thoughts?

Today?? hype.
if S.S. busts a move in the majors before the All-Star break, expect to see that same shirt at the National with a much higher price tag and someone scored.
<< <i>actually, not a bad deal.......... >>
I agree ... No, I would not pay that money for a jersey, but does not seem like a bad price for the FIRST JERSEY he ever wore in professional baseball ... and it's autographed as well.
Like itzagoner stated, if he busts out of the box quickly, that jersey would sell for double at THE NATIONAL. Like all rookies, its a gamble ... most do NOT pay off, but the ones that do COULD reap some big rewards.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Something that would belong in the baseball Hall of Fame.
A gamble yes, but $2k opportunity cost might be worth it.

<< <i>Just a question but would any of you guys give your first pro jersey away in any sport? I would think it would be at home framed on mom and pop's wall. >>
I would think the jersey belongs to the team and they can do what they see fit with it....Saying that, for a guy like Strasburg, I don't think he would care much about a ST jersey........I'm sure he'll keep his jersey from his first ML start
