Ok, Topps, this is getting ridiculous.

First we have the Jeter, Bush, Mantle card in 2007, which I thought was kind of neat. Then, we have the SP's of older players in 2009 and 2010. I guess I'm ok with that. I could do without it, but it's kind of neat. Then, it starts getting a little bit out of hand with the "Pie in the Face" short prints of Yankees players. Now, I find out that there are Abe Lincoln short prints of Cubs players.

What's next?

Bill, I did a completed search and I only found a few Cubs cards and a Rogers Hornsby SP with Lincoln. I have found Ryan Dempster, Tyler Colvin, Milton Bradley, and Jeff Samardzija.

This particular gimmick sort of feels like a psych experiment.

Didn't we see this coming with some of the A&G cards containing bugs and dinosaurs?? They've found a niche market for card chasers that is keeping people interested no matter how silly the concept.

They ought to make a "silly face" variation of some players. You know good and well the photographers have some photos of "in action" shots that the player is having a "not normal" expression.

How about shots of players scratching their sacks when they think no one's looking? The backs could even make a John Kruk puzzle!! Think about it....

I got in pretty early on the Abe card thing, and got really lucky when I sold it. I had a Colvin that sold for $199.99. They sell anywhere between $40 and $80 now.

It looks like all of the Hornsby cards are the same. A couple of sellers tried to pass the man in the suit off as Lincoln.

Lincoln was from Illinois. It would be like placing JFK in Red Sox cards because he was from Boston.

Come to think of it, they could have also put President Obama's face in those Cubs cards...but perhaps Topps learned from its 2007 Bush card that it might raise some debate because there are collectors who aren't necessarily fond of the guy. So, "Honest Abe" fits the bill nicely.

I was thinking that was the way Topps was going to go with series 2--makes sense to put Obama on White Sox variations.

I must have missed that thread because this is the first time I've heard of these. Of course I had none of them in my dupes, but it was fun looking for them.

Maybe it is just me, but with the redemption cards, variation cards and all the inserts, this is the most FUN I've had ripping and collecting cards in a long time. Sure, they are not worth much, but I enjoy chasing them and it is not costing me a small fortune to do so.

I've actually built the series 1 set, am working on the insert sets, have been trading my redemptions and have been trading inserts with other collectors. I have not done any of these things in many, many years.
