Lets change it up!! Coins

No pun intended.
Who else on these boards collect both coins and cards?? What do you feel about both hobbies? Here are some of my fav errors and low pops. Just got the 1916 standing liberty this week and its my #1 coin.
Post youre gems even though this is a baseball form. Lets see some hands.
I feel the coin hobby is going to jump in the next 10 years with the baby boomers coming out more so than cards. Thoughts?

A 1951 P D S set of Carver / Washington Commemoratives.
A little history on the coins. The US Mint has only made 5 coins with African-Americans on them. The first was the Booker T. Washington Commem from 1946 through 1951. The second was the Carver Washington for 1951 through 1954. There are also 3 Modern Commems which I don't own. The Jackie Robinson $1, the Black Patriots with Crispus Attucks, the first American killed during the Revolutionary War, and the Little Rock Central High School Desegregation Commem, the 50th anniversary (I do own this one).

<< <i>How did you crop them like that? Great coins!! >>
In my case it's the dealers photo or scan.

Dang, I forgot about that one. I have never actually seen a DC Quarter. Saw a picture of one, must be why I forgot it.

This was my favorite, it is normal 1 oz. round size. On the coin is pieces of the Brenham meteorite.

Ya 6 of them right here at CU, and you can get banned for this type of infringement.
<< <i>It was to change things up and I was asking what yalls opinions were on both hobbies. I was asking to compare both but ehh thought it was a great Idea. >>
It was a great idea Handyman. It would be a dull world if all your interest lie in just one area.
I also collect B. Kliban cat stuff, look it up on eBay. I used to buy his cat calendars back in the 70's and though he died around '82 his work is still popular.

some of them are showing a color change on the borders. A rustic color. Anyone have an idea what caused this?
Keep the coins on the appropriate forum, and cards the same. If I wanted to see coins I'd go to the forum and wear a pocket protector.

in the plastic may have caused it. DO NOT dip it of clean it off.

Why would coin collectors wear pocket protectors and card collectors not? Are we not of the same mold. We have an obsession to gather something and put it into some kind of order. I have cards which I have not added to since 1991 but still enjoy them. That is why I come onto the Card Forum. I took a break from coins for a few years and got into cards. Then after the dealers ran me out of cards I went back to coins.

edit: I can only wish that I could find a vending machine that will take late 80s commons, LOL!

I agree there are a good group of guys OVER THERE! That is on another board where they talk about COINS.

Oh come on guys, I think this thread is cool, and there are plenty of things slabbed coins and slabbed cards do have in common, and there is no harm having this tread over here at all. The fact that already many "card regulars" are showing some "coinage" is
I do not want to say, if you are upset with this thread do not read it! Oppppps, I just said it, I'm sooooooo sorry!
No hard feelings, but I like it (cards & always liked coins too!)...

No hard feelings at all. I respect your opinion as a long time active poster with well thought out posts.
In this case I disagree with you though.
Let me start by saying this is not a big deal to me. Obviously I can choose not to read a thread so it's clearly on me to ignore threads I am not interested in.
To me, it's the old slipperly slope theory. Coins today, maybe record album collectors thread tomorrow, then maybe a thread about cars, then... etc... until we are back to an open forum!? Great. I never contributed much on the open forum and if we had an open forum that would be great. However, for now we have a coin board and we have a sports cards board. It just seems that people should post on the right board. Probably just my OCD talking.
As stated above, it's not a big deal.
I hope one of you starts a baseball card thread on the coin board though. Will be curious how long it lasts.
Could be worse, all of the Star Trek/Wars GEEKS could start posting about that garbage. Then I really would have to object more vocally.
