Video games thread

So my wife is watching the Notebook and here I am on the computer again with nothing to do except tip back a cold ones (not altogether a bad thing image)... Anyway, I really don't have anything to talk about regarding cards but figured card collectors also collect video games. I was playing tecmo bowl today with my son (he is just old enough to START to challenge me on some of these games) and remembered back to my childhood about some of the super human strength these athletes had in these games. This came to mind when I ripped an 80-yrd td run with Bo Jackson image I also remember Buster Douglas got his own game after he knocked out Tyson in Japan. Of course, Mike Tyson was virtually unstoppable for Nintendo (but not to me--if you can survive the first 1:30 of uppercuts you have a chance). There were also some players on NBA Jam like Shawn Kemp that had some out of this world dunks. Thanks for letting me blab and if you want to add some more please add

I was a big fan of Tecmo Bowl and RBI Baseball. Bad timing for me in terms of my education. They were very popular in my freshman year of college when I was in the dorms and if I won I usually played the person who had next game instead of going to class. I think that was why I ended up taking Pre Cal twice. And to keep with the theme of the thread, never came close to being a doctor. Did pretty well in Psychology despite spending most of it trying to strike out George Bell.
  • My favorite games are bubble bobble and Zelda for gameboy. Yes, the original black and white gameboy.

My favorite video game was Pacman, followed by Pole Position and Centipede. As far as sports related my favorite was the hand held football game of the late 1970's.

    Here's a picture of it...Thanks for letting me share...Donato

  • Nice eltronic football game. I remember when I was a kid my dad bought me one of those huge football games, where its almost the size of a table and you would put all the players on it and it would shake when you plug it in, like a strong vibration would come on and they would all move... Not my favorite, but you just reminded me of it when I saw your game.

I have always loved Pacman. I bought a full stand up Pacman cabinet for my basement a few years ago. The kids really love to play it because it is a simple concept, you don't need a PHD like some of the games today.

  • i loved RBI baseball. I was unstoppable as the SF Giants image
  • Does anyone collect sealed nes games?

I've been thinking about getting into that market. Seems like you can get some favorites reasonably cheap in good shape. Like VGA 85, key game like mario 1, or mike tyson's punchout, or double dragon for under $1,200-1,500. The first mega man game (which is rare sealed) sold for, I think $1,600 a few months ago. Ghosts and Goblins is another rare game, sold for $700.

For 80's collectibles, they seem like a decent investment. Hard to see them collapsing the way psa 10 rookies from the 80's or 90's might collapse.

The black box games look especially interesting. It'd be exciting to get some of those sealed, in good shape. And maybe some sealed gameboy games after that.
