    About a year ago, I went on Sportlots and tried to find out which set was the most overproduced by looking at the number of cards for sale (of random card numbers from each set). The winner was 1987 Topps. However, this may be because 1987 Topps has some pretty decent rookie cards, and therefore people are probably more likely to open the packs than open 1988 Topps packs, for example.

    I hear 1952 topps had some Double printed stuff. So I think thats safe to say 1

    My guess would've been 89 topps or 90 donruss.

    I think you could probably build a collection of Ted Williams puzzles that would cover the entire city of Boston.

    anything from this year. But it will be gold in a few years Bc I feel Its going to be another cold winter this year

    My guess is everything produced from 1988-1994, except 1989 UD and 1990 Leaf. Only Talking baseball, I'm not into other sports.

    I agree, definitely this issue. especially the higher number series, the supply more than exceeded demand.

    I feel 90 topps were printed more than 87 topps (just a guess) -- because you still see them in vending machines and toy stores.


    90 upper deck was one of the first wax boxes that were continously printed exclusived for many retail stores.

    they were in modells, toys r us, kay bee, and amazon -- just search amazon or google and you will see tons of 90 upper deck wax still sold for 30 bux or more online.

    I remember reading that they printed 90 upper deck then stopped. then printed high series wax. then printed original again.

    then printed both again !!! -- like 4 different prints.


    I guess we can narrow it down to 4 years - 4 companies:

    1987 - 1990

    topps, upper deck, donruss, fleer.
    Buying:
    Topps White Out (silver) letters Alex Gordon
    80 Topps Greg Pryor “No Name"
    90 ProSet Dexter Manley error
    90 Topps Jeff King Yellow back

    I've always thought 1987 Topps - by far.

    It's the first set to sell in lots of 100, 500, and 1000 like shares of stock (or so investors thought.)

    It's really the first set where you don't own just 1 card, or even 5 duplicates, but like 20 dups or you're no-one.


    The difference was back in 1987 ppl thought you could 'buy and hold' 1,000 Topps Jose Cansecos like 1951 Mantles... I think ppl got wise real fast to the 1988, 1989, and 1990 issues.

    1987 was my first big year in cards, I dabbled in 86 but when I traded my skateboard to my older brother for his collection and the race was on.

    Anyway, why was it that the 87 Fleers were so rare back then? Topps was of course bountiful and there was enough Donruss to go around but there was not a single pack of Fleer to be found at any of the corner stores or gas stations I frequented. I didn't visit my first card shop until the following year where I bought my first pack of 87 Fleer, paying a premium of $1 a pack.

    Are there actually any production numbers known for these late 80'-early 90's sets? Of how many cards were produced these years?

    Besides the Most Plentiful vintage cards, T206, there are some vintage sets with production number well up into the millions.......... ie 1914 Cracker Jacks (E145-1) says right on every card "Our First Issue is 15,000,000 Pictures."

    And Im sure with the complete set of 176 cards offer on the back of 1915's (E145-2) for "1 coupon and 10 cents" they even made more the following year as these cards are far more plentiful than the 1914's.

    I am not sure of the source, but Topps is believed to have 2x production every year from the mid-1980s to early 1990s.

    Man, I still have some 1989 topps.
