I enjoy buying raw cards and getting them graded..

Please provide the best purchases you turned into gold after getting them graded. For example, one of my best raw purchases was a 1993 topps gold Derek Jeter for about $10 off of EBAY. I had it graded and it came back a BGS 9.5, only 20 exist and the card last sold for $250. Let's hear yours.
Work hard and you will succeed!!

I'd like for someone to actually find the infamous 1986 Topps Alan Knicely in raw and flip it into a PSA 10 slab.....I am willing to bet this bad boy would sell for 3 digits, and the buyer will be from the board, bragging rights and 1952 topps mantle trade bait.

In all seriousness, who actually has the 86 topps Knicely in a PSA slab?

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

I've shared this story on the boards before. When I first got back into collecting a couple of years ago I was new to the grading game. I decided to put together the '61 Topps Set and ended up having around 200 graded when I sold it. I bought a raw '61 Yaz from a antique consignment lady on ebay who had 2 pictures of the card. Being new to the game, I thought it looked really good from the pictures so I decided to gamble on it and bought it for $30. When I got it in hand it looked brilliant so I sent it off with a batch of '61's. It came back as this:

    2/25/10 eBay Auction $244.39
    10/21/09 eBay Auction $242.50
    11/2/08 eBay $280.09 <------sold it for this.
    8/3/08 eBay $214.50
  • A while back, I bought a 1992 Packers Police Brett Favre card raw. It was the best centered card without edge chipping that I had ever seen (green boarders makes it tough). I bought it for $10.50 raw. I recently had it graded. Came back as a PSA 10. It was the first PSA 10 that was graded.

Shortly there after (within 2 weeks) another PSA 10 was graded. It recently sold on eBay for $1050.00. Admittedly, the fact that the seller misled buyers by saying it was a POP 1, probably had a little something to do with the price. It wasn't the first time the seller has done this, and it certainly isn't the last.

  • I bought this card for $8 raw for my All-Time University of Illinois rookies. I knew it was a nice example, but had no clue it'd grade this high when I made the purchase:

I bought a 1986 Mother's Cookies Giants set several years ago for about $5, submitted the Will Clark and got a PSA 10. It was pop 1 at the time, and sold it for $500 to a very motovated Will Clark collector. Fun times!

  • I bought a lot of 33 1950 Callahan cards on ebay for $100. They were described as near mint-mint. I sent the nicest 15 cards from the lot to PSA for grading. They came back 1-PSA 7, 13-PSA 8, and the last one was a Nap Lajoie which came back a PSA 9 pop 1of4. I sold it for $750.

Nothing to crazy, I bought a raw 1972 Bobby hull for $3 and sold it for around $65 in a PSA 9 holder. I also bought a raw 1991 Score Brett Favre for $5 and sold it for around $60 in a PSA 10.

Bought this raw on Ebay for $4.25 about 8 years ago. I bought the Brett around the same time for $6.75. I joined PSA shortly thereafter and submitted both on my initial sub. Talk about luck. image I still have both.

I bought a raw 68 topps game card of hank aaron a few years ago for about 10.00. When I had the submission graded it came back a PSA 10 sold for little over a $1000.00. Talk about luck.
