Why do sellers do this?

Here is the auction in which he bought it on Feb. 28th

Then here is the auction that I just won from the seller

'67 Clemente PSA 7 (ST) flip

Not a bad looking card for $30.

Simple opportunity at improvement and realizing that it won't happen. Many buy with the hope that they can get a bump and will oft times over pay for the grade to take the risk. They sell it for what they can when they realize the opportunity is not there. While it appears to be a loss, it is really just recouping capital to go after the next target (the cost of doing business). Given the potential upside, such a practice is more common than one might think and if you know what you're doing, it can pay quite a few bills.

    Interestingly, both are members here.

Could be he needs the money. I've bought things and then a week later had a bill come up and needed the cash. Maybe the same thing here.

part of the gambling win/loss ratio system and the benefits which derive from being right MOST of the time.....if you learn how to do it, then the minor losses are very easy to forget.

I get the gambling part because I do it every time I buy a card or set to resell, but I don't get the starting bid at $29.99 when he only had it for 2 weeks. I would have either put a BIN (which I hate), at a price above what I gave for it, or I would start it at .99 and run an auction. The card had 11 bids the first time around when it started at .99 and the underbidder bid $61+.
