Some dealers are really clueless.......

I went to a monthly show today because I was thinking about setting up at a future show. In the end, yes I will give this show a try. I figure it would be a neat thing for my son to be there with me and maybe earn a few bucks.
Anyway, I saw a Roger Staubach rookie for $100.00 in what would grade maybe a 2. It was off center quite a bit and ragged corners. I would have priced it at about $20.00 if I owned it. Another dealer had some old stuff mixed with new. He had half of the case with insert cards neatly arranged in a row for $20.00 to $50.00 and a $500.00 Duke Snider card tilted on the top of a scattered pile of good plus 1950's cards. I would have had the Snider card arranged better for all to see instead of getting lost on the top of a pile. Another had a 1966 Willie Mays card for $250.00. Yes $250.00. I would grade this card a 3. This card was slightly better than the Staubach I mentioned earlier. This card may be worth that or more in nrmt-mt condition because it is card number 1 in the set but I guess this guy just prices it to whatever Beckett says.
Lastly, one dealer had a very nice 1964 Topps Giant Mickey Mantle graded 9.5.......PRO 9.5. I am not sure what he was asking because there was not price on the card. It was very noticible that the Mick went on a left side diet. This dealer also had some other PSA and USA graded cards. I am not sure if this guy submitted the Mantle himself which if he did, he chose PRO for a reason or if he just bought random graded cards off ebay for resale.
I think I would have a successful show whenever I decide to do it because my nrmt cards will be priced at nrmt prices or and my vg cards would be priced at vg value or lower.
Oh yeah, these are some of the same dealers I remember from the card boom of the mid 1980's trying to sell the same cards from then.

I used to see dealers at mall shows sell cards for obscene prices to ignorant shoppers who just happen by.
That Staubach could very well end up as some Cowboy fan's $200 birthday present.

No I wasn't, but I set up there for the last 3 shows of 2009 (almost back to back with the seller of the PRO 9.5 Mantle), and I wrote about my experiences at the Bordentown show in this thread. The guy who runs the show, Rob, is a very nice guy.

Agreed...my show want lists are supplies, freebies (including auction catalogs), odd balls, cheap 50's and 60's commons if I can find them, and they raid the 10 and 25 cent box for 70's and 80's cards. Nothing high dollar, nothing graded. I dont really buy wax at shows unless its dirt cheap.
