I found a 1909-1911 Hal Chase...What is it worth?

Need help from the baseball guys. I would like to sell this card to support my new found craving for 1970 Topps Football. What am I looking at? Thanks.

    $30 +/-

    Nice card.

I was thinking more along the lines of $50-$75 on eBay for that card in what looks to be VG/EX condition.

(For what its worth, the 2009 SCD Standard catalog lists that card for $100 in VG, $200 in EX.)

    Nice card!

It looks more like VG to me, and actual prices are in the $30 - $45 range.
  • Thanks for the input guys..

Your differing views on the grade of my card are why I posed the original question...In my view, my card seems to destroy the PSA 4 shown below but me not knowing anything about the issue makes my opinion relatively suspect.

The card is a very solid PSA 4 (a possible PSA 5 on a sloppy grading day). That being said, PSA 4 (VG-EX) tends to be one of the widest ranging grades on the scale. I've seen cards as nice as yours to ones uglier than the example you've posted all in the PSA 4 holder. Realistically, the card is probably between $45-75. On the off chance that it could end up in a PSA 5, you could double that estimate.

    VCP for PSA 3 = $42.84
    VCP for PSA 4 = $73.94
    VCP for PSA 5 = $141.98

IMHO it is a 4. I am not sure if that is staining in the back or something else but it will probably not grade a 5.

Nice card. Dunno the value myself, but I'd certainly have it than the PSA 4 you posted. At least yours isn't missing a corner...

The back "staining" is just the overprint from the glove, belt, ball and hat area (all of the dark ink). Very common on the issue and many other issues as the ink would still be damp when the sheets were stacked. In almost all cases, the overprint matches the front of the card. I see this all the time in the 1948 Leaf FB issue. Sometimes it's the print, sometimes the image or portions of it and other times a combination of both. PSA and SGC are understanding of this and somewhat lenient. The overprint on this card will not impact the final grade.

I'm leaning towards a 3 or a 4. More towards a 3 like Nick. The 4 corners may not be missing a piece of cardboard, but they have a good amount of wear and some chipping along the right edge and some marks on the left edge.

    RAW Black Hat
    $40-$50
Its the 2nd most common and cheapest of the 5 Chase's in the set.

Blue is more common but in higher demand so sells for slightly more.
Its a different story if it was the White Hat, Pink, or Trophy ones, they are tougher.

Nice card. It would probably grade a '4' more often than not.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say to me here. My comment had nothing to do with staining. I pointed out that the posted PSA 4 is missing a corner (top left) - that's it.

    Color me confused.
