Comment on nam812's Champion Set

I just looked at the link he provides to his 1910 Champions T218 Set. 153 cards and all scanned. That is one more nice set of cards. Congratulations on the completion of it. Are the cards that rare or hard to come by? I was looking at the population figures.

The cards are out there, and you can put it together fairly quickly if you go for lower grade cards. But if you're looking for 5's and up it can take a long time.
IMO it's a grossly underrated set, with incredible artwork and an interesting selection of athletes.
You might want to look up the T218 thread on the PSA set registry forum, lots of good info there.
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
I started by buying a raw set on eBay, and then I had the good fortune of Anthony (Griffins) sharing some scans of his cards with me, and I knew I wanted to try and complete a graded set of T218s. I graded about 40 from my raw set, and then I won a graded lot from Heritage (an auction house), and then pieced the last 50 or 60 together over time with many coming from Anthony's 2nd set. Anthony has shared some scans of his high grade T218 cards in past threads, and they are amazing.
I kept my T218 goals to PSA 4 and above with an overall GPA of 5+ because, unlike Lee, I dont have a successful brother with a restaurant who can support me with financial hand outs.
I can't let any thread about T218s pass without chiming in... I was never a big boxing fan and certainly never a big track and field fan (nor golf, billiards, bowling, aviation, roller-skating, long-distance walking, etc.) and there weren't more than 2 or 3 names in the whole set I'd ever heard before when I first got a look at it on these boards. Even so, it's now one of my favorite sets of all time and the one I most want to complete graded. It's just a gorgeous set and full of character. Anthony, Nick and Scott have all put together great collections that I'm terribly jealous of. Now Trent's got one going... Why don't you wait to start yours until I'm done with mine.
I feel the cards are a steal at the prices they go for.
Very Cool!

I really wasn't thinking of starting a set of T218's. I was just reading the threads and saw Nick's link and clicked on it. I was impressed with the way he had presented the set, and the set itself. I collected sports cards from '86' through '90 or '91 and haven't messed with them since. So, I have a bunch of for the most part worthless cards. I respect the love for the hobby the members here exhibit. I love coming to this site and reading up on things. I post some old baseball tickets and Nascar tickets from time to time. Have a bunch of autographed Nascar programs I saved from the mid 60's to early 70's. Like it says in my sig line, "Collect for the love of the hobby, the beauty of the coins (Cards), and enjoy the ride."
