Ripen 1980 WBTV Charlotte Orioles Team Issue (Blue) Grade/Grading

What do you guys think this card would grade as?

Also, how do I embed the picture. I can only figure out how to attach it.

Finally, I have the opportunity to buy this for $1150. Do you think it is worth it? Is it worth it at a PSA6? PSA5? PSA4?

You should get a scan of it with a black background, easier to see corner wear and stuff then

A PSA 5 sold for $600.00 so I doubt $1150 is a good deal. Just an opinion.

$1,500 - $1800 is the price for the last PSA 8's that have sold, just for reference.
  • Yes and no. This is clearly not an 8. Maybe a 6, maybe a 5. Possiibly a 4? However, the previous sale of $600 for a PSA 5 was 2 years ago and I have noticed the sales on this card have really jumped over the last two years. Case in point, a PSA 8 jumped from $2000 to $2900 in about a year and a half. My impression is you couldn't get a PSA5 for anywhere close to $600 these days, even though the market is really tanked in the last 2 years. But I appreciate the input
  • where do you get this from. I see $2700 to $3500 in the last year from ripkeninminors

The one that sold for $3500 was autographed, and the $2400 was a Huggins and Scott auction which usually bring more than what you'd see on eBay.

There was a PSA 8 that sold on eBay in July 2009 for $1500, so I guess $1500-2400 would be a more accurate range :-D

The card is most likely a 5 with the off chance of a 6. I bet that the value for a 5 currently would be $700-800 and a 6 would run anywhere for $1000-1200. If you want to buy it no one here is stopping you but you will most likely lose money. Again, just an opinion.

  • I still don't follow. I see the one you are talking about, but it is not a psa 8 nor did it sell for $1500. Point me to the right place

Edited to add: Sorry, but the forums screws up the formatting of it image
  • Good info. Is this available at a website somewhere tuna. I only see ebay data going back a month.

It's just a personal tracking thing I had for graded Ripkens, unfortunately it's not really in a state for public viewing, and I haven't updated it in months.

I am going to guess I missed the auction data since summer is my busy season. I'll have to get that info added.

As far as the card itself really tough to tell. The cards are so flimsy it's easy to get surface damage on them. If it was an orange bordered card I'd have no concern buying a copy raw. The WBTV cards do show up if you are patient. Not telling you to avoid the card but that's a lot of coin for a raw copy.
