he truly was my favorite player while growing up in L.A......part of the lore of Dodger Baseball is remembering how Vin Scully would describe his trips around the basepaths as well as the ones in the outfield....when i was 9 years old, i was afforded the opportunity to sit in the Dodger dugout before throwing the first pitch from the mound on Camera Day thanks to our family business sponsorship.....Walter Alston introduced me to Willie & we sat together on the dugout bench for a few brief moments and talked about the sport we loved.....lots of baseball memories sparkle and fade, but this one remains as clear to me as the day it happened.

    RIP Mr. Davis!

Edited to add: His stats were pretty decent: 55th All Time in At Bats; 62nd All Time in steals; 69th All Time in Games Played and 82nd All Time in Hits!
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

I wonder what Willie would have done if he had played in an offensive place and time. His numbers were decent in Dodger stadium in the 60's, which was darned near impossible. Had he played in Chicago or Boston...

I heard the sad news on the radio today minutes after it was released to the press. I was too young to see Willie play in his better years, but my father told me how good he was when we saw him play for the Padres. I still remember looking at the stats on his 76 Padres card back when I was 8 years old and thinking how neat it was seeing a Dodger player from the early 60's play in person.

    RIP Willie Davis.

This is my personal Willie Davis rookie card.

Growing up in L.A. I really enjoyed the Dodgers in the 60's and Willie Davis was one of the stars of the team. I got this booklet as a giveaways at the Union 76 stations in 1961.

He was one of my favorites too. I remember Vin Scully describing the anemic Ddodger offense as Willie Davis bunting to get on 1st, stealing 2nd and 3rd base, and Parker or Fairly hitting a sac fly to bring him home.

  • Willie Thanks for the Memories, I too grew up in LA in the Early 60s Willie and Tommy where great to watch, none of their cards ever hit the bike spokes!
