EBAY sellers that do not offer Combined Shipping...

I know that the seller does not offer combined discounts. He charges $3 for each single card won. Is it wrong of me if I win multiple items to ask him to ship them seperately?

If I'm charged full shipping for each card won, then I'd fully expect a separate package for each. First, I'd have a dialogue with the seller asking about combining though. Obviously, these are things to keep in mind before bidding also.

i agree 100% and i have factored the $3 into my bidding. That being said, he told me he plans on shipping them together and my opinion is that it is just wrong...

Tell him that if he does not combine shipping that you demand he ships them in seperate packaging or you will not give him 5 stars etc. I ALWAYS get items shipped seperatly if the seller does not combine shipping. I have had this happen to me 3 or 4 times and twice I have had them shipped seperately and the other times the seller eventually agreed to combine shipping. It is not right.

Simply leave a NEG for "excessive shipping costs," AND whack his DSR-stars into oblivion.

  • In my opinion, if you know what the seller's terms are before you bid, you choose to bid anyway, and he adheres to the stated terms....... you do not have a valid complaint.

"i agree 100% and i have factored the $3 into my bidding"

You should stop thinking right there as you're not paying anything extra out of pocket for the cards. If you're happy to pay "x" delivered then who cares what the seller does with the money. He needs it more than Ebay and it's not costing you any extra because you were intelligent enough to factor $3 into every bid.

I understand what you are saying but I also believe that if you spend x for "shipping and handling" then that money should be put into shipping and handling. If I buy ten cards from this guy and he charges me an extra $30 then I expect next day air mail. If he ends up putting 10 toploaders into a bubble mailer and ships it first class with no DC I will give him 10 negs and 0 DSR stars for shipping. I understand that he is trying to make some extra money but he is doing it the wrong way. I can be happy with a purchase but unhappy with the transaction. This is an inappropriate way of making extra money by charging extra fees for a standard service. Just an opinion

  • ding his dsr,if he has 1000+ it will not make a dent in it.if it is low give one star on all.better yet ,don't bid let second high win, this cost him $.i'm sure all the cards will pop up again, somewhere.

How hard is it to just combine shipping? Honestly, it is really that difficult to do especially seeing thit it is cards.
  • I would not hit him with a negative as you have the option to buy from him or not based on his terms, however I would accurately rate him as a 1 star in shipping for his DSR. This is the purpose of the DSR system. Are the shipping charges fair in relation to what the actual cost would be? Obviously in this situation...not even close.

I agree here - I don't begrudge charging what you charge, but be prepared for some complaint if you spend $5 to ship 10 cards from different auctions (and ship them together of course) and you charged me $30.

Pay each one a day or two apart individually, not one combined (LOL) payment................tell him you do not combine payments!

thanks guys..seems like most agree. what i have told him is that since I am not paying for COMBINED shipping, i would like him to not COMBINE my shipment. He told me he will ship indiviadually. I will give him a positive feedback assuming everything else goes smoothly, but I will ding his stars..

Only give him positive feedback and 5 stars etc. if he puts just as much care into packaging as one would expect. If he puts your cards in a toploader then envelope and stamp then that is unacceptable and he still deserves negs across the board. When I purchase an item I expect bubble mailer/toploader/DC if he now takes away from these basic services to save money then he does not deserve 5 stars.

I like the idea of paying separately vs the combined invoice - that's an extra $.30 per auction. Time alone would make me, as a seller, want to lump the auctions together. I can't imagine that with mailing and materials cost he is coming out more than $.50/card ahead.

I recently contacted an Ebay seller saying I was interested in 20-25 cards from his store. I just wanted to make sure he was not going to kill me on the shipping charges, his listings were unclear on his policy. His response was that he would NOT combine the shipping for me, total for 20 cards would be $60, he actually wrote that. I decided I could somehow live without his 20-25 cards.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

If I don't like the shipping terms I just do not bid. This whole thing is very simple to me. Many dealers want 2X VCP for BIN's on EBAY- If I really needed 1 for a set and paid that price should I leave a negative or ding the stars because of this. Seems about the same to me. Paying $100 for a $50 card or $10 for $5 of shipping when I know of both up front. If I was really unsure of the shipping terms I would email the seller. If I did not like what I heard I would not bid. While I agree with sellers not combining shipping as wrong; it's their auction with their terms.

I'd imagine that those sellers actually prefer people buying 1 or 2 items instead of 10-20.

You guys are right about the seller merely following the terms of the auction, but it's such an easy thing to do that I don't know why anyone would not combine shipping.
To me, charging s/h as if they were all seperate and then combining them into one package that costs far less than the collected amount leaves a bad taste on the transaction. It happened to me recently, and I never expected the seller to charge the $3 for each item (packs) when I bought 8 packs from him. When I saw that invoice, I thought the seller was a dink for not combining it when I saw my $24 s/H and the usps label said around $8.00.
I never thought about buying the items with seperate transactions. with paypal taking all those cuts, that would hopefully go a ways towards sellers like that modifying their methods.
  • I agree, I don't understand why a seller would do that. And if they take separate Paypal payments, and then only ship in one box, well, they obviously won't have a valid DC for all the items, just one. It's just not worth the risk with Paypal and their DC terms.

Personally, I will combine ANY purchases on ebay unless it's just not physically possible, such as a large case of game pieces bought at the same time as a rolled up poster. It would be almost impossible to combine shipping on something like that, but you can fit dozens of cards in a small box, and hundreds in the larger boxes.

I just sent out a jersey card today, 7 bucks, I know, but I wrapped it like it was worth 700 bucks, and I have never had a complaint about shipping damage or anything like that. A couple packages got lost in Canada and the Phillipines, and all were found but one.

It cost me 3.21 total for a 7 ounce SAFELY SECURED box and USPS DC with 3 cards total in it going to Michigan, and I charged 3 bucks for shipping. There is no excuse to charge 30 bucks for something that will probably weigh less than a pound, and I think the seller who does that is trying to take undeserved money from both ebay AND the buyer.

I would shop elsewhere if they won't offer combined shipping!

  • I dont bid on items if the seller does not combine shipping, NO MATTER HOW MUCH I WANT THE ITEM. Some factor it into the bid, PLEASEEEEEEE. Still BS to do business this way.

If I bought 3 items from a seller that did not combine AND discount shipping I'd simply pay for the items separately (if I was so inclined)
how he chooses to ship them is up to him. I would not want someone telling me how to ship so I would NOT tell anyone else how to
    either.

Just because someone combines shipping does NOT mean that they discount it, we all saw that 2 weeks ago when someone
here said it happened to them.
