1975 BB

I am considering buying a '75 BB raw (Near Mint condition) of this full set but could I be satisfied with Brett & Yount only? Does anyone here own the full set and convince me the Yount/Brett is not enough?

Must be a Beckett thing...
I have the Yount and the Brett, and I don't yet have the urge to stop buying '75's.
Hope that helps.

What does it book at? Maybe $350? So, if your earlier statements are correct, you should get a real nice set for $35. Good luck!
So take a look at Beckett and 1948 Leaf Football and tell me you can buy most of those cards in such conditions at 50% of Beckett...
Keep on talking and you'll double track on almost everything you've said or spin doctor it to suit your needs.
And if you want you label me Einstein, that's fine. As I said before, I haven't bought a Beckett in eons.
It doesn't take an Einstein to figure out that you're a bit looney... So, how's the class action lawsuit going?
<< <i>According to Beckett, a NM '75 Set Books for $600, yet the same set can be bought on eBay for $300 and therefore Beckett is overpriced x2.... >>
How many times are you going to sing this song?
What kind of doctor are you?
I like the juvenile snaps. Einstein and VOTECH. Quite special. Did you get your honorary doctorate from NAMBLA...
Ooh yeah! Ow-ow!
You better call me a doctor baby, feelin' no pain
Overloaded, down the drain
Somebody get me a doctor
You better call up the ambulance, I'm deep in shock
Overloaded baby, I can hardly walk
Somebody get me a doctor (Ooh!)
Somebody get me a doctor
Yeah! I'm feelin' over fine
And I'm speedin', down that line
Woo, woo!
(Guitar Solo)
Ow! Ow! Ow!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!
Woo!
Oh, woo-woo-woo-woo-woo-woo-woo!
Ow!
Ooo!
Ya better call up a doctor, feelin high
I'm overloaded baby, I say "Bye-bye!"
Somebody get me a doctor. Oh, yeah!
Somebody get me a doctor. Ooh, ooh!
Somebody get me a doctor. Ah, yeah!
Ooh!
Somebody give me a shot!
Maybe Baseball card collecting just isn't for you.
I'm a very avid collector of this set and the mini version, and have personally seen dozens of regular sets in person priced at around $300. All claimed to be near mint, but not one, and I mean not one, was a near mint set IMO. If any one of these sets were truly NM, I would have gobbled them up at $300 in a heartbeat. But, all were EX or maybe EX-MT overall at best.
A true NM set in raw form will easily fetch $600 IMO.
<< <i>Most of us need help stopping buying cards, not convincing us to start. >>
IMO - there's a difference between "set collecting" and a "collector of sets."
I find it much more enjoyable and challenging to set a goal towards specific sets and find the pieces.
Collecting sets that are complete lacks the personal touch for me - I am talking about older sets - from lets say 1985 and back.
As an active buyer and seller, I can assure you that truly NM and NM/MT sets from that era and earlier sell for "book" and above. I'll gladly pay full "book" and above on most NM/MT football sets prior to 1975 without knowing how much they've changed (if at all) in the price guide over past decade.
Now, if you're talking about the mass produced crap from the early 1990's to present, we're in partial agreement. Prices on players that peaked and then fell off the radar have NEVER been rightfully adjusted. Names like Jason Giambi, Nomar Garciaparra, Andruw Jones, Mo Vaughn, Chuck Knoblauch, Cecil Fielder, Albert Bell and many others that I'm sure still book pretty high probably couldn't be sold for pennies on the dollar. But the blanket statement that real prices are 10% of what they are listed at is such a falsehood and can be proven to be erroneous with just a little research and the examples with be far more than just a few "anomalies." But then again, that won't suit your contention, will it?
I would not buy the 1975 Topps Baseball Set. I stated what I would pay and do pay for FOOTBALL in strict condition.
Isn't it time for you to hurl another insult?
I suppose anything is possible, such that one might get lucky on occasion and find a true Nrmt to NM-MT set on eBay or a similar venue for $300 or $400. I haven't been so lucky with this set, but I must admit, I did find a very nice 1976 T BB set for $125 through a private sale, which was a bargain considering the great condition. However, this isn't the norm in my experience.
I'm not trying to insult anybody here, and I don't follow the price guides much. I'm just sharing my experiences with this set.
<< <i>I will still contend that most of the pre-1975 material is accurately priced. Wow. You really haven't looked at Beckett for a while. I have a NM '71 BB set for $2500, PM me. Also, a '59 BB for 8K, etc. etc. etc.... >>
Is there any particular reason that you are so dense . . .
FOOTBALL! FOOTBALL! FOOTBALL! I said that I would pay such numbers on FOOTBALL!!! I guess you never even got on the bus, did you?
If I'm right about this, there's your disconnect.

Not Price Guarantee! Use it as a guide, its not exact and cant predict the future or present values or what something will sell for...exactly.
In that case Im sure those 2 cards have A LOT to do with the overall worth of the particular set FOR SALE. Maybe the set averages are Raw NRMT, but some are MINT and some are EX+ (including Yount and Brett) Need to see good scans of the key cards and go from there.
But I also think you should 1st try to figure out if you are a "rookie collector", "set collector" or what??? I think thats the first prob here.
I think you should buy the set minus the Yount and Brett cards IMO. That would be cool.
The 1975 cards are so ugly, I have always liked them (mainly the Minis I collected as a kid). Pure 70's! the 1972's too
<< <i>I am done with you Yoda. I'm sure Beckett is miraculously accurate with football but just have a blind spot with baseball
You're my hero. The day you have half enough intelligence to put me "in my place" will be a cold, cold day in Hell. You're too busy working on your next childish insult to read much of anything that's been written on the subject you've broached previously. Feel free to disagree. However, it seems to be that you are ALWAYS right and never let the facts get in your way of your convoluted assumptions and generalizations.
