    Meh - barely a blip on my radar. The only UD I collected was a yearly Dodger team set - other than that, they meant nothing to me as a collector. Topps had a monopoly before and still produced some terrific cards. Peeps are worried that Topps won't care what kind of product it puts out since we are now a captive audience. Perhaps, but I doubt it. If they do put out crap, it will only increase the interest in vintage, which is never a bad thing.

    I won't miss them at all. On the downside, Topps has even less incentive to release any compelling product other than Heritage.

    Instead of looking at it as a monopoly, it may help out the card collection for younger kids. Maybe they can now product a product which will get kids back into cards.. Maybe something in a 50c/75c retail packs which would have "hits" which can only be found in these sets.

    At least now we do not have to worry about keeping track of 675 different sets a year. Topps alone is only good for 145 sets a year and 60 of those usually look exactly like the ones from previous years.

    What about those 2010 Upper Deck packs at Walmart? Are those going to be pulled? Will they be scarce?

    From what I read, it sounds like Upper Deck paid them "a substantial sum of money" related to the 2010 sets that are out there. This payment was probably to cover MLBP's share of royalties for the 2010 cards. I think that was to keep Upper Deck from having to pull all those cards still on the shelves. So the three 2010 Upper Deck sets already released should be plentiful.

    UD will have to go with the 'street clothes" approach if they want to mke cards with baseball players on them.

    If you want street clothes, check out some of the Old Judge cards from the 1880's.

    I'm not a fan of street clothes, upper deck, or bugs for that matter.
