Ebay scam or not? advice needed.

Does this sound like some kind of scam or not. I sold an auto Enie Banks autograph card back on Jan 28th. Today I get this email:
Hello. I am sorry I have not gotten in touch with you sooner, but
I was unaware of any problems with our transaction, until the
package was opened! Upon opening the package, I was sad to
find the case of this banks auto card broken, and there was
some damage to the card where the case broke off at. I am more
than happy to send you some pictures of this, if you need, just
so you have proof. Please get back to me when you have
sometime, thanks and I hope to hear back from you soon, so
that we can figure this out. talk to you later, have a good one!
Do you think there is any chance that the card arrived OK and that he damaged the card himself later and is trying to blame me because it has been over a month. Did he just figure out that the card was damaged now? Even if it took the card 2 weeks to get out to him he had an additional 2 weeks to open the package. I don't quite know what to make of it. the card was sold for $30.00 so it is not like it is a high dollar card but i would rather not eat the money. I shipped the card in a hard plastic 4 screw screwdown holder. Any advice??

PSA cases have even been damaged going through usps system machines. After you receive the card back, refund him and then you can always block him later from future bidding.
If the bubble mailer is too thin it sometimes gets mixed in with flats or letters and run thru the automated machines. Very bad things happen in those machines. Writing "do not bend" doesn't help, the machines can't read. You have to protect the card by making it less likely that it will see the machines. LOTS of cardboard is the best way.
The card's not that common that he could swap a different one.

"...Have him return the card to you along with the original packaging so you can see what went wrong. You should be able to see damage on the bubble mailer and the cardboard along with the damage to the plastic and the card. ..."

Yup.
Don't waste time with pictures. Just get the card back and refund the guy.
Sounds like you might be able to sell it - since it's an auto - if it's not too hurt.
.........
C A R D B O A R D - and LOTS of it - is definitely the key to safety.
Since I uses DC on everything, all my packages are at least 3/4" and
I usually puff them up to about 1 1/2+" just to be safe.

I puff packages containing cards with plastic bags and never had any problems.
