USA wears retro jerseys in hockey

The USA wore the 1960 hockey jerseys as they defeated Team Canada 5-3 tonight.

Canada must now play Germany in the play-off run to advance. the USA wins the group and gets a bye to the next round.

Russia wins their group, Sweden plays Finland now ...

Sweden v Finland might end up being the best game of the tourney thus far. I'm looking forward to it.

    good hockey game, hun.

i like the team burke has put together; lots of youth and speed, and he just happens to have great goaltending.

canada has tough road now. assuming they beat germany then they get russia in quarters. yikes!

four or five countries could win this thing. should be an exciting week

You aren't kidding! Miller is having a great season. He held us (Sharks) to one goal to tune up for this.
  • Great game to watch.

How is that kid Stevenson/Ryan doing?

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • You think maybe Roberto Luongo should have got the start in goal for Canada ?

I still find it amazing that Burke cannot score a hooker on Young St. in Toronto, but puts together a motivated team for the USA ?

It was a very good game from the onset - USA scores early, Canada ties it. Canada scores, USA ties ... and Phil Kessel's empty-netter was pure hussle (again a Toronto Maple Leaf !)

cannot wait until the medal round ...

  • I'm not even a hockey fan but I enjoyed the game!

That was Ryan Kesler that scored the empty net not Kessel.

that was Ryan Kesler...Kessel was invisible the entire game...but then again he is a Maple Leaf so he's used to it...

I don't think so. USA was all over the front of the net. I think three of the goals were long and low shots.

On the other side, Ryan Miller stood on his head... WOW image

Oh yea, they were motivated for sure.

  • thanks for the correcton on the Kesler / Kessel goal.

but I wonder if Luongo - who plays at home in Vancouver might have just been a better choice.

The OT neede against Switzerland may have been an omen.

    Ryan Miller was BIG.

... and I love the retro USA as opposed to the roller derby desing they've been wearing for the past few years.

The US will go as far as R. Miller takes them.
  • That game was really fun to watch. especially that segment where USA had a semi-breakway, then Team Canada had one, then USA had one all right in a row. I wanted USA to win, but no matter what, it certainly was entertaining.

People were complaining about the channel it was on but I'd rather watch the whole game on msnbc than only get snippets of it on the main channel

Hun, IMO Luongo should have been in net from the start and Brodeur should not be on this team.

By far, the best Hockey game I have seen this season, either in the NHL or Olympics.

The talent level is there in the NHL, but they dont put 100% into every play, every second of every game like they did in the game last night. It was like watching an all-star game where the players WANTED to win and played as hard as they could to do it. Its a shame that the major sports all star games are such a joke, watching the Olympics made me wonder what the NFL Pro Bowl would be like if they were going all out to win, or the NBA "Defenseless" All star game or even MLB All star game where the stars play 2 innings because the might get hurt in the middle of the year.

The game last night had solid, full speed hits, harder than most NHL games. It was nice to see the effort put in by both teams, even the empty netter at the end had more effort than most games. I really hope both teams make the finals, would love to see the rematch

Players in the NHL put 100% into every play throughout the entire game, just the difference here is that they are playing for something different.

Agree that that was one of the best games I've seen in a long time.

Almost unfair to call that an empty netter. It had a good chance of going in with the goalie standing there.

    image ... awesome.

It was a great game for sure. I won't bother ranting about Canada's goalie, but they should have pulled him after his shaky near loss to the Swiss.

My favorite game so far was the Slovacs victory over Russia.
