  • Wow......I think Felicia needs to send him a PM.....also...strange that he mentioned he wanted the Mantle "authenticated", maybe that's the term he uses for "graded". I wonder what he bought the lot for....

I wondered the same thing. Dean is a big dealer, so he knows what he is doing. He says the woman knew what they were worth, based on the condition- there is no way she had any idea.
  • But even if dean pulled out a new Beckett and offered her full value of the price guide (for the Mantle alone) it doesn't come close to graded card prices. She could have thought: that's full market value and settled. In her mind, she was getting full market value. (and for the record, I believe he was saying 'authenticated' for the sake of viewers who aren't aware of PSA.).

My first thoughts were "why are all those cards not in holders, and why the hell is he stacking them so high?"
  • Did you notice his had trembling when he put that first stack back on the pile? lol, You know you're a PSA board member when your first thought is "WHY AREN"T THEY IN HOLDERS!!!"....when he mentioned they were so very clean I thought to myself..."SO GET THEM IN HOLDERS!!!, YOU"RE RUINING THEM WITH YOUR DINGY HAIRY FINGERS!!" lol

wow, that Mantle looks like an easy 7. And I agree, get the cards in holders, it made me nervous watching him flip those cards around with his grubby mitts!

Yeah, watching him handle those cards like that drove me nuts... especially for a guy who has that much experience in this industry. Even when I open early 70s packs from our group rips, I place EVERY CARD in a penny sleeve straight out of the packs, before I even pay attention to who the player is. Drives me nuts...

I don't even dream that good. LOL

    Thanks for the video link.
  • "Pretty pleased with this" he says. Oh yeah, like that happens everyday. He said $30K on the Mantle, I would think higher with that centering. He barely goes over the Mays and Robinson like they were chump change. I think he played it cool because some relative of the woman would see the Youtube video and he didn't want to play it up too much. Can you tell I'm jealous? image We all dream of that happening to us. Amazing!

I could be wrong but just a feeling that this "lady" got a number of competitive bids on the lot she sold - I think in this case she probably wasn't totally ripped off. That being said, just a guess that he'll clear at least 50 - 100K on the deal, and he probably outbid Mr. Mint and some others.

She of course should have gotten the cards PSA graded, and then consigned the lot to an auction house, but I'm sure none of the bidders offered that suggestion to her. LOL

For a card shop owner and collector of 40 years that guy is an IDIOT!!! Why isn't every one of those cards in a card saver (or any kind of protector for that matter) on their way to PSA?!?!? Not to mention he has no concept of some of the tougher cards like that James Runnels RC he didn't even seem to be phased by!

Oh, I'm sure Dean knew exactly what he had. Like Pigs said, I think he was trying to play it off like it was no big deal. Lord knows if I was handling those cards I would be on the ground in the fetal position sucking my thumb and crying like a baby!
