80's Massive Factory Set Case/Wax Sale on Ebay

This lot just sold. I was tracking it and was interested in the results. I'm interested in your thoughts.

Linky

It starts off with a bang, 84 Donruss Factory Set case. Not sure there are many of those around. The bids hovered at $4k for a while, jumped in the last 10 seconds of bidding a bit. The more I read the description, the more I think anything north of $5K was too much. There's just too much 88 and 89 product.
Kiss me once, shame on you.
Kiss me twice.....let's party.

Overly obvious quote of the day:

"Factory Cases that have been in my possession since time of purchase."

I think WAY too much. I bought an 84 Donruss Factory set a couple of years ago and the quality is weak. Very few that had a shot at PSA 10. I've heard rumors too that the factory set cards from that year may have some undersized issues. Other than that, not a lot of valuable stuff here. More like stuff that if you ordered it through another seller, would be worth just a bit more than the cost to ship it. In this case, who wants to drive across the country in a Uhaul to pick up a case of 89 Topps. Then where do you store it. A lot of additional costs in this auction. The seller should feel very happy about the price he/she received and the new empty space. In regards to the resealing, not a whole lot opps with this batch unless you want to replaced your dogeared Larry Walker rookies with some fresh ones.
  • I agree with Ulysses - not much here to reseal, not much here to resell, really. It would be great for flea-markets and/or shows at $5/box $3/box for most of it.
you'd probably have a packed table. but who wants to lug around a bunch of $5 retail boxes?
I'm glad I was not the winning bidder. And so is my bank account. If i had $5K to buy cards with, I think I could find something a little better to do with it

Thanks for sharing the auction. The seller did well here and there's a sucker born everyday. I am not an expert in wax cases, but that
is way too much change for 80s junk.

Buying and selling wax is not a smart way to invest 5K. You have better luck with the lottery.
