Guess the grades- 55 Koufax, Clemente, 54 Bowman Williams&Mantle GRADES POSTED BELOW SCANS

Some of you know the story already. Older friend of mine has a lot of cards and I've just started sending them to PSA for him. He puts them under the glass of his coffee table! The Koufax is definitely the best card... probably a 6 maybe a 7. The Clemente looks like a 5. The '53 Mays has a crease on the left side so it's probably a 2, maybe a 1. He has entrusted me to send these out for him along with some other '53 Topps, some nice '61 Topps and a few '62s. Enjoy... Grades are listed below... not copied & pasted because they were graded using his membership. He just emailed me the grades yesterday. He was a little disappointed. I'll have to look over the Koufax because I thought it was a definite 6. If the 53 Mays is a 3, then the 53 Mantle should've been at least a 4 IMO.

    The Koufax looks like a 6.5 maybe a 7. The Clemente 5.5 or a 6.

    Mantle 4 Mays 2


    Mantle 5 and Williams card 66 and rare is a 5 IMO.

    Beautiful cards Neal. That Koufax has amazing white boarders and the Clemente has great centering. The others aren't half bad either. I'm sorry if you went over this but, the friend is keeping them after grading or is he selling? He should score you one of these just for helping him out. JMO. Nice gesture on your part. Doug

    Doug, the gloss on the Koufax is unreal. The scan doesn't do it justice. No, he's not interested in selling after they're graded... at least if he is, he hasn't mentioned it to me. He's probably around 65-70 yrs. old. He has 48, 53(color) and 54 Bowman sets. He has 53, 55, 61,62,63&65 Topps sets and then all of the Topps sets from 68-90. When I went over today he was sorting 86-88 Topps!!! He has collected for years. I just like looking at the cards and don't expect anything in return.

    would he want to sell them all before he sends them in? PM me if so, along with a price.

    EDIT: just read your last post. Ask him if he wants to sell ALL of his collection and to come up with a price.

    I don't want to speak for Neal but this is a very difficult thing to do with older collectors. My Dad had a friend that was older and he had cards from '48 through the 80's and I would have felt uncomfortable talking price or how much they were worth and never brought it up. I, like Neal just enjoyed his cards and brought some of mine over to share with him. Would I have loved to have some of his cards? Sure, but if he is still enjoying them and going through them, I think some things are better left alone. Look how long some of us still love our collection and if I make it to 70 years I hope and think I will still enjoy it. My take. Doug

    Grades are inimage I'd be resubbing the Koufax for sure if they were mine.

    Wow! on the Koufax. Just have to send that back in. Sometimes I just hate the half grade system, just bump it up for cryin out loud.

    If it were anything but a 5 I would be inclined to agree, but as we all know, a 5 usually indicates a missed wrinkle.

    Edited to add: That's not to say that you shouldn't inspect it very closely when you get it back.

    Sorry to hear about the Koufax grade...Either way that card has great eye appeal and is a beauty.
