redemption card

I pulled a 2009 Allen & Ginter framed autograph (Alex Rios). Like most people I got - Due to circumstances beyond our control...

I did not want the Rios card anyway but sending a Red Sox card to a Yankee fan is like a smack in the face image

  • Interesting. My Shani Davis and Alex Rios both now say shipped on the website. I wonder what I'm getting?

Interesting. I thought Topps policy was as follows: If you pull an auto redemption card from a specified set for a specified player and enter the cert # on Topps website, but that player either doesn't sign the cards for Topps or signs them late and Topps feels that they can't deliver that player's autograph to you, then I thought Topps would give you another player's autograph from the SAME SET. What's confusing me is that you mentioned your auto redemption card was from 2009 A&G, but the Buchholz card isn't from that set. They should have just sent you another auto card from 2009 A&G. Thats really presumptious of Topps to assume you even collect cards from a different set, much less another player, and that kind of sucks. I have a redemption from 09 A&G and I think it was also for Alex Rios. I would be totally pissed if they mailed me anything from another set instead.

I too thought I would at least get another framed auto from the 2009 A & G set. In a way it does not matter though since I would not keep either one. I only collect Yankee autos.
  • I put it in the sale area if anyone is interested. The sooner I get this Red Sox auto off my desk the better image
  • Nothing in my mail box today image

I think Topps' policy is an equal value replacement and I don't think they even try to mention the same set.

  • I would take that trade any day of the week. I've never come anywhere close to that on any of my redemptions that couldn't be filled.

My Clay Buchholz Topps Certified autos arrived in the mail today in place of the 09 A&G Alex Rios redemption card.

This is the note from Topps that came with it:
"Thank you for your submission of the 2009 Allen & Ginter BB- Alex Rios Framed Autograph redemption. We apologize for the extensive delay, however we were trying to obtain the exact card specified on your original redemption. Due to circumstances beyond our control we have not been able to obtain the exact card specified. Enclosed you will find a replacement equal in value to the original redemption"

Based on other threads I've read, this happens pretty frequently with Topps. Its the first time its ever happened to me, maybe because I just got back into modern last year. But I find it quite hard to stomach, especially coming from the supposed leader in the industry. Did Topps even have a contract in place with Rios or were they just negotiating a contract with him at the time the presses ran and just rolled the dice and inserted the redemption cards into packs? If they indeed did have a contract in place, is it really that hard to force the guy to sign some cards? I mean, its been 6 months since I mialed in the redemption card....its not like the guy died or anything. And the most insulting thing is when the note tells me that the card they sent is of equal value...According to who? The guy at Topps that evidently has a giant stash of extra Buchholz autos that nobody wants? Topps needs to change their policy and scrap the whole concept of redemption cards and just insert the players they have at the time of printing and not include the other guys in the set checklist.

Has anyone had experience in refusing the replacement card from Topps and asking for something else instead?

I am a big Red Sox fan and would be very happy to get a CB auto. Very strange that Topps would not send you the correct card. What they should do is send the Bucholtz card and then eventually send the correct one.

I sent in a 2008 Co-Signers redemption for a Chris Duncan/Brendan Ryan dual auto card back in August of '08. I just got a Robinson Cano auto just like that Buchholz in the mail yesterday. I'm sure the Cano card sells for more but I would rather have the Duncan/Ryan autoed card for my Cardinal collection. I'm not a Yankees fan at all so it's going straight to the trade/for sale pile. What a trashy set, topps obviously wants to save money here and we know it costs more money getting Rios to sign on card autographs and then slip them into the
holders that all ginter autograph cards come in and look beautiful, instead they print up some cheap looking cards slap an ugly silver sticker on it, slip it into
an etopps case and call it equal value. LOL I really doubt they any plans what so ever, of even making the card. They just had to make everyone wait what
seemed like a long time, so that they would be ready to take anything including garbage like this

Upper Deck is doing the same thing with those wildly popular bug cards that appeared in Goodwin, they had no intent in making them, they will just sub them out
with a card from the trash pile...afterall who is going to complain?
