Thinking of resubbing my Orr rookie card - opinions

This card was graded before the .5 grades were in place and I think has the centering and focus of at least the .5 jump. The main flaw is the bottom left corner. Thoughts ?

    I would try it.

  • Looks better than some of my 7's....Would you crack and resub, or resub in the holder? If the later, do you put a min. grade in? I only ask because I have a '62 Gamble that I want to resub...
    Thanks,
    Bob

beautiful card Jim, I would send it back to PSA in the holder for review...bad idea to crack this card IMO (I know you didn't ask about cracking it out) but I agree that it should be a 6.5 and if you're lucky, 7.
  • I could see that getting a 7 on any givin day.

Go for it Jim, good luck. image

i wouldn't crack, old flip and the bottom edge doesn't look so hot imo (look at the space between bottom left corner and bottom of the case and the right edge and the bottom VS the same space at the top right/left corner), my vote is keep as is

I would NOT crack it however, I would send it in for a review. Could easily be a 6.5 or 7.

The bottom left corner looks a little too soft to be any higher than a 6, I think.

Beautiful card, g/l if you crack it. They spelled defense wrong.

    "Molon Labe"

  • Absolutely DO IT! That card aint coming back in a PSA-5 holder, guaranteed!
  • the bottom left corner is troublesome, but it does seem undergraded.

While the nay-sayers claim you should send it for review, I would gladly pay a high end PSA 6 price for it and can assure you that it will come back in a PSA 7... There's nothing wrong with the cut (the top left edge is hiding in the channel and makes it look miscut or altered, but it's fine). The lower corner doesn't appear as bad as it looks at first glance. If you want top dollar for it, let me know...

    Defence
    –verb (used with object)
    9. Sports. to defend against (an opponent, play, or tactic).
    Also, especially British, defence

    The queen's english I guess?

I sure wouldn't be in any big hurry to crack it out.
It looks like a strong PSA 6 to me.
If you do, you run the very real risk of it coming back miscut, because it is off a little.
Scott doesn't seem to think so, but it is.
PSA these days ..... is much more inclined to hand out the MC desigination than they were a few years back.

Still with that being said, certainly a very nice card to have!
I would leave it in the holder and try for a bump that way.
That would be the smart was to proceed on your part.

    Good Luck!!

I'd keep it in the holder but submit it with the (3) worst 6's you can find. Very nice Orr.

Thanks for all the positive words of feedback. I have no intention of cracking this out. I just felt based on the PSA standard for the possible .5 increase this card has it all going on and that .5 will mean a lot if I ever decide to sell it. Here is the PSA description for the half point increase. I will post the results after I send for review.

Half-Point Grades: Cards that exhibit high-end qualities within each particular grade, between PSA Good 2 and PSA Mint 9, may achieve a half-point increase. While PSA graders will evaluate all of the attributes possessed by a card in order to determine if the card may be eligible, there will be a clear focus on centering.

Finally, keep in mind that qualifiers will not apply to grades that achieve the half-point increase since, by definition; these cards have to exhibit high-end qualities within the grade in order to warrant consideration. For example, there will not be cards graded PSA NM-MT-Plus 8.5 OC or PSA EX-MT-Plus 6.5 PD since the half-point is reserved for high-end cards within each grade.

I've seen worse in 7 holders.

On a good day - a 7. Have no problem with a bump to 6.5 - my reason for possibly no 7? The lower left corner has a slight bend line that some graders would not see as a 7.

I'd crack it, send it to psa once or twice, and if it comes back mc send it to SGC. An SGC 84 will outsell a psa 6 anyway, and they're not nearly as anal about miscuts.

I agree to this practice find a couple bad 6's and submit it for review image
