Help with lost mail

Last month I had about 20 auctions on ebay. All went off without a hitch, except one. I printed shipping labels through paypal and mailed each auction in a bubble mailer. As time went by I checked some of the tracking numbers, not all of them, and everything was being delievered on time. Of course the only card I sold worth anything ended up not getting delivered/lost.

Well fast forward to today I get a message on ebay that the buyer never got the card. I check the tracking number and there isnt any info at all besides that I paid for the shipping label on Jan. 13. The rest of the tracking numbers show everything from when they were first scanned until they were delivered.

Since I dont sell that much on ebay and have never been in this situation who do I contact? I am very impatient person and dont want to call 3-4 numbers before I get results. I mailed the card USPS with shipping confirmation and insurance since that card was over $100. Who should I contact? My local post office since it appears the mailer was never scanned?

After 30-days, your PO will look into lost mail. Not a heck of a lot
    they can do, usually.

If the item was insured, wait until the buyer files an EBAY/PayPal claim.
Then file your USPS INS claim.

    If no EBAY/PP claim is filed, ask the buyer to be patient a bit longer;
maybe the package will show up.

If the package is lost and was not insured, you will have to refund
the buyer's money and will suffer the loss.

Insurance generally protects the seller, NOT the buyer.

I don't use PP shipping because I have NO confidence in the USPS
    consistently scanning the PP-labels.

I prefer to pay more for USPS Delivery Confirmation.

  • Thanks for the reply. Is there a difference between paying for delivery confirmation through paypal and straight from USPS?

    80-cents at the PO.

    18-cents at PP.

The USPS DC-sticker is more likely to be scanned at every step of the journey.
At the very worst, it is always scanned on acceptance AND the ticket has a
    USPS date stamped on it.

    .......

Folks who use PP shipping often buy "SCAN ME" stickers on EBAY, to remind
the clerks/carriers to scan the PP labels.

    scan me
