1988 Cal Ripken Topps?

I am sitting here opening a case of rack packs from 1988 Topps (I know, the wife is out of town and the cable is out). I feel bad for the Ripken registry guys as every Ripken has been really ugly and the Glossy All Stars all have roller marks. Anyone have a Ripken PSA 10 in either the regular issue or the All Star they could shoot me a scan of? I would like to see what it atleast might look like.

Yep, that's a tough card (Pop 12 of 110), and one of only two PSA 10s I need in my Basic Topps Set (the other is the 1985 Topps Pop 7 of 560). I recently LABORED over a 1988 Topps Vending case, and subbed 8 of them in my December Special. I actually had a lot of luck with the centering in that case. Is there anything in particular you're looking for in that set?

    Here's my 9:

By the way, if a 1985 Topps #30 PSA 10 would ever hit the bay, it would be certain to pull more cash than a 1982 Topps #21 in PSA 10.

Nothing in particular. I just thought I could send some cards in for the group sub out of it. I did get a nice Maddux and Mattingly. The 1988 Don Mattingly is one of my favorite cards of the 80's. Thanks for the scan.

Yeah, I could appreciate the 1985 in a 10 more than the 82. He almost always has that laser streak going down his leg. I have some without it but they have other issues.

Also make sure you check the backs of your Ripkens. A bunch were misprinted with a Stan Clarke back.

Why do I have to spend $167.50 on a PSA 10?? That's just crazy... the Set Registry is a hellova drug.

Ouch. For that kinda coin you could pick up a minor league issue!

I'm on my way there, I just picked up a whole set of the 1981 TCMA Redwings (minus Cal). Very soon I will be looking for that right Ripken. I don't need a high-grade one just yet. Baby steps!

I just had to grab this one now. I slaved over an entire vending case, pulled about 18 Ripkens, subbed the best 8, and ended up with (5) 9s, an 8, a 7, and a 5 (oops!). I'm still on tilt from that, so I said screw it and dropped the hammer. I wasn't too far off, here's the VCP:

    7/21/09 $107.79
    2/19/09 BIN $100.00
    2/17/09 $82.25
    11/29/08 BIN $159.95
    11/3/08 $123.84

Oh well, that's done now. Off to the 1985 Topps! image

There have been a pair of WTF auctions listed in the past week. The completed auction really surprised me. A 6.5 BGS Ripken and BGS 8 checklist for $250. Then again I gave $160 for a PSA 6 Ripken WTF to break and get signed at Cal's next Ironclad signing along with a 1981 TCMA and '92 Traded.
