Question about 2010 Topps million card giveaway inserts

I see a couple of 50 card lots of these on ebay. I know that each of them has a redemption code on it that you can redeem for a Topps card that they have produced in the past. My question is: are they scratch offs or are they there for anyone to see and potentially log on and see which card it can be redeemed for? If it's the latter then I would think that these sellers have already done that and know that the redemption cards aren't any of great value. Does anyone know?

so, anyone who has the card in hand could go online and see which card it can be redeemed for?
  • I don't believe the website is online until sometime in february...

even now, you'd have to wonder if some of these sellers will simply write down the codes and then enter them in when the site is up and running.

vette - yes, the numbers are present, but the site is not available to load numbers in...sellers could have written them down, ready to submit as soon as it is available.

I love the irony on that website.... if you look at the displayed picture they show a '53 Jackie Robinson (you hope you get), but tucked behind it is three 1989 topps cards which you will likely get!

That does not seem to be a great idea, whoever is sitting in front of the
    computer first gets the cards,crazy.

maybe people shouldn't buy those inserts on Ebay. Maybe they should just go to Walmart and Target and buy a bunch of boxes of their own and try to pull the inserts themselves.

    sincerely,

    Topps
  • Some of those Ebay auctions dont' even mention the redemption for those cards and they are selling them as "a set". I think, for sure they have written down the codes and getting rid of the cards.

Unless you've got the magic code, (which is highly unlikely) those things are worth more sold, before redeemed.
  • It's odd.... they are going for about $1.50 on average

Even if you bought 1,000 of them and paid $1,500 you'd still only have a 1 in 1000 chance of the Mantle...
  • does it seem like all 1988 topps cards under the 1953 Robinson.

    So their giving away cards from 1980's, 1990's and 2000's ... ?

I should run a contest to do the same - no purchase neccessary ...

1 of every card they produced.

that accounts for around 50,000 cards... then leaving room for 950,000 extra cards that are 1986 to present!

...and a 1 in 1,000 chance for the complete 52T set
...and a 1 in 1,000 chance for a Koufax, Clemente, Aaron, Mays, Ryan, etc, etc, etc, RC
...and a greater than 100% chance of pulling a lot of commons from bad years.

I saw an piece with one of the Topps guys and he mentioned that 1 of everything only gets them up to 38k. So there are 962k dupes.

no doubt there are plenty of other star cards. Although if you spend $1500 and only walk away with a PSA 6 1960 Mickey Mantle, PSA 7 1961 Koufax, PSA 7 1973 Hank Aaron, and PSA 8 1983 Wade Boggs Rookie, PSA 5 micro-wrinkle 1973 Mike Schmidt... you had a bunch of good pulls but still lost big on your bet...
  • when the contest goes live, we should start a thread for people to post what they get from their million card giveaways...

Yeah, I am busting a couple cases of 2010 Series 1, so I will have about 120 of them. Right about $1 is my breakpoint (sell or redeem). Is tempting to have that 1 in 8500ish chance at something nice.

I will only be redeeming the one's I've pulled from packs...won't buy any online....there will probably be a mess when folks start finding out their codes have already been redeemed......the only way I can see around this situation is if Topps requires you to send in the card with the redemption code...that is the one way to insure the person who actually ends up with the card actually gets it...no matter who has down the online redemption...

Its not worth the risk. You have to remember over 90% of these cards will be common garbage.
  • i ripped a few blasters and a box of them and in the blasters i had at least 2 packs per box where the stock card wasnt glossy just cheep stock cards,, same printing but diff unglossy stock,, got 1 relic card some japanese guy f*k*youdome or something like that, bunch of rookies and some weird small cards and there it says 45 cards to the set, i got no# 1- 8- 13,, looks like some ball game because no#1 is a homerun mick and no#13 is a balk chipper,,, overall it was fun to rip great looking cards color is top shelf,,, also in the blaster boxes they have patches i thought was cool i think exclusive to target and walmart i got 1935 world series patch,,1934 world series patch dizzy,,, and another jap guy called ichyiro, 2001 all star game patch,,on a laugh out loud note i got a mike pizza card you mom threw out but it should read, cards you used like a samari warrior and flung it far far away, bj

  • Probably not a good idea for Topps to make these cards not be scartch offs. Sounds like it may cause a problem, hopefully not.

If people sell used code cards as non-used, they're just leaving themselves open for a SNAD and Paypal dispute. People sell other code cards all the time, I don't see these as any different.

Very true. If I purchased these cards, turn around and log them in once I receive them, and it tells me on the site the code has already been redeemed, you can guarantee I will be getting a refund.

Having seen the buybacks in the Heritage packs, don't you think the high dollar cards will be creased with round corners?

Guys - i got one of these in a pack last night and also went to the site, where it says:

"to unlock cards for your collection to trade and look at online".

WHERE does it say that they are mailing them to you?

To me it looks like some sort of online BS...just my thoughts...hopefully i am wrong. that is a lot of postage for them to pay

I wondered about that also. Apparently you will be able to trade these on the website as well. So if I redeem an Aaron, but I want the Rose instead it would be possible for me to offer up a trade.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

interesting. Sounds like ToppsTown. Does it actually say ANYWHERE that the cards can actually be sent to the collector?
  • I hope they redeem them quiker than my Ryan Braun redeemption from 2009 Allen Ginter. Still waiting.

I forget where I read/saw it -- but you need to request to have your cards sent to you (kinda like eTopps). Otherwise, they sit online in your 'portfolio.'
