Just made a trade for something non-card related. UPDATE for all the guys knocking the Vette'.

A guy just came in with a 1985 Corvette, Red w/black interior, Targa Top, 73K miles. He was looking to trade or sell it. He was from Atlanta and just happen to be up here visiting family. When he came into my office he noticed some vintage cards I had behind my desk on the shelves. He said he had a huge collection and used to own a shop back in the 80's-90's. We started talking about cards, collecting, etc...
Well, to make a long story short. I ended up trading him my '64 Topps Set (96 graded including most of the stars) averages around NM with all the stars graded 7 or 8, for the Corvette straight up. The car has had a little paint work but I figure it will bring $4500-$5000 on ebay, or around $6000 easy if I could retail it.
What is the strangest trade anyone has ever made for some of their collection?
UPDATE: Car brought $5200.

A few years ago I was selling off the last parts I had from my Outlaw drag car. I put the list of things online and got a call from a guy in Utah who had a very nice 93 Harley Electra Glide Classic and he was looking for the same transmission I was selling. When I talked to him on the phone he said he was so confident I would like his bike he would deliver it to Los Angeles without a commitment from me. A week later he came down and we did the trade....I game him the trans and $1000 cash for the bike.
The trade worked out for both of us.
I've done some trades in the past with some of my movie autos for cards.

collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.
looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started
Nice 'vette story though!
When I sold the Harley I used some of the money to buy lots of unopened wax and rack packs, plus I started a collection for my son.

The Jock was actually worn by Vladguerro when he had a severe case of the runs and ran out of underwear. good thing I was able to talk Vlad into directly sending it too fandango, But that ended up costing me BBQ lid.
Good trade and all parties were happy in the end.

<< <i>Freshman year, this girl who lived on my floor needed a 12 page term paper on Booker T. Washington's Autobiography. I read most of the book and wrote the paper in five hours and she gave me five hours in return. It worked out well for everyone. True story. >>
See? Nerds can get action too.

On a scale of PSA1 to PSA10, how would she rank? Or, a pic or Facebook link would suffice, as well.

that's the exact way I used to get girls to write my term papers.
Funny stuff guys.
<< <i>I traded an auto'd hockey card for four bags of taco flavored Doritos that they do not sell in my area >>
lol, I think I remember that trade on here a while ago.

<< <i>How many months did it take you to use up the 5 hrs.?
Steve
lol, yeah. I would have definitely made her agree that you could use the 5 hours up like a Wal-Mart gift card. Each time you just swipe it and then get a receipt for the remaining balance.

Nice trade! I'm glad both parties were happy!
<< <i>That car brings me back! My dad bought one brand new back in the day exactly like that...mom put sugar in gas tank during divorce so he sold it in '89 At about that time the Viper was a prototype and he planned to buy one of those, but I beat him to it

lol, sugar in the gas tank during the divorce was cold. By the way, I got the card, thanks my friend.
Did I say we had been sampling various adult beverages since the bar closed at about 1 AM.

<< <i>Congratulations. I'm sure your profit will be appropriately filed with the IRS as income. >>
It will be now!!
<< <i>Congratulations. I'm sure your profit will be appropriately filed with the IRS as income. >>
It was run through the car dealership, so yes it will be filed as income for my business as are all the cars that are sold through the dealership. I'm not really sure how you guys think a business is run. It was a guy from NC who bought the car but we would pay sales tax had it been from someone in state, hence the part of the listing where I stated that anyone from Georgia would need to pay 7% sales tax.

Actually, you're right, I don't understand how your business is run. Did your business own the '64 set, or did your business purchase it from you in order to trade it for the corvette with the previous water damage? If your business purchased the set from you, will you be reporting the income from that transaction on your personal taxes?
Please help me understand.
<< <i>Do you file taxes for your profit from ebay? >>
on personal stuff I sell like cards I don't, but all of the cars I sell go through the dealership so they all get filed. The ebay fees go into the cost on each particluar vehicle, much like clean up, oil change, etc...
In this particular case, my cost on the Corvette was what I wanted to get for my set, so everything over that minus the fees/other costs is profit and gets filed as such.

lol, Im not getting into a big drawn out argument over something that you don't even comprehend. You have no clue about previous title changes or anything in the car business so it is a moot point in speaking to you about it. You just want to try and demean me for some reason.
Furthermore, I'd venture to say that I pay more personal taxes and business taxes in a year than you have in your life so I definitely do my fair share to provide for all of the government dead beats.

Actually, I do comprehend. Quite well in fact.
Nice Trade.

WA state is over 10% on cars but there is no state income tax
<< <i> Our property taxes are very very very low. For example a 3000 sqft house would be around $700 a year. >>
Unbelievable! I pay more than that each quarter, and my house is just over 1700 square feet.
Edited to add...My premium may be a bit higher due to the fact my back yard is full of unleashed, angered pit bulls jumping on trampolines.
<< <i>Thanks for the information on the 7%. If I ever buy a car in GA I will be filling out a Drive out Certificate. >>
If you buy a car in Georgia but have residence in another state then you don't pay Georgia sales tax. You pay your home state's sales tax when the title is transferred. For example, the guy who bought the Corvette lives NC so he will pay North Carolina sales tax. All he has to bring me is $5200. However, if he lived in Georgia then he would pay the sales tax at the dealership.
