Hockey, lite rock, and Michael Caine

Blackhawks are losing to the Canucks - and that hairpulling wuss Alex Burrows - 4 to 1 with 9 minutes left in the 3rd period. They're not coming back from this so I figured I'd check out the boards.

I like hockey. And the Hawks. Although I don't collect hockey cards. Nor do I think Huet or Niemi are going to get the Hawks to the Cup. But I like hockey and feel privileged to get a West Coast late game after everyone has gone to bed.

I used to go out on Saturday night but then we had a daughter and, because I am going to see Lloyd Cole next Friday, I stayed in tonight. Any Lloyd Cole fans here? Pretty mellow these days, but I got first row at Olde Towne. Looking forward to hearing "Perfect Skin" AND "The Young Idealists". He's playing with a trio. No drums.

Any fans of the Church here? They had a hit with "Under the Milky Way" in 1987. Now their frontman is painting. I am on their email list and it advertised that, not only is he painting, he's taking commissions for portraiture. I sent him a $180 deposit via paypal and some digital photos of my baby girl on October 2 to paint a portrait of her for my parents by Christmas. They're not Church fans. Pop likes Gordon Lightfoot and my mom likes Neil Diamond. I still think it could be the coolest gift I've ever given. But it's still not here. I'm 50-50 if it ever will get here.

I also like my baseball cards. Got over 300 graded from the 1952 Topps set, number 3 set on 1984 fleer update registry, and just started amassing 1971 topps cuz they look cool. Pretty new to the boards, but had great trades with Saucywombat and ClayShooter22. Thanks for that gentlemen.

Still, I'm fairly sure someday I will get screwed here. It's happened on ebay so why not here? Right now I'm moving ahead with the Church guy under the mantra "What would Michael Caine do?" cuz whichever way he goes it will come out charming. But it's starting to bug me, ya know?

I'll be taking down the setlist at Lloyd Cole next Friday. If anyone's interested, let me know. Thanks for reading.

Hockey is way cool, pun intended. Burrows and H. Sedin are on my fantasy team and are ripping it up. Can't always play Burrows though, as I also have Heatley and Parise at LW.

Huet can't get your Hawks beyond the 1st or 2nd round, best bet would be to see if Niemi can get hot at the end and carry you. Rumor has it that they are looking for another top 4 D'man, some moves may be made right after the Olympics.

The music and painting are just way over my head, no idea who any of them are, but the Dog in your avatar is way cool. image

Man, The Church. Haven't heard mention of them in a couple of decades. Used to love "Unguarded Moment" (too long along to remember anything else, but think their debut album was called The Church).

That was "Of Skins and Heart" - favorties off that are Bel Aire and Tear it All Away. I got em all plus a couple good live shows. Maybe we'll take this off topic and set up a tape traders forum. Sorry to veer away from sports cards and such.

    Peace be the journey

  • Steve Kilby or maybe it's Kilbey is the frontman of the church. and I was either at that 1st ave show or maybe it was at the northrop audiotrium I saw them. After the Milky way album, the next one was just ok, with metropolis as the big single and a couple of other just ok songs.
Lloyd Cole is cool too- I love the 2 albums from the late 80's - one has "downtown" on it and the other has "she's a girl" on it. Kind of bitter like Morrissey

Agree, Destination & Reptile were the best tracks on Starfish..much more Church-like than Under the Milky Way...check out Destination live, back in the day..

BTW, I'm paying a nice bounty (or trading card) for any 1986 or 1988 Church ticket stubs.

    MA Fleury '08-'09
    2.60 GAA, .908 SV%

    C.Huet '09-'10
    2.26 GAA, .904 SV%

just saying...you don't need an elite goalie (M.A. Fleury, Cam Ward, and Osgood waive hello) to win a Cup when you have a team with the best defense in the league, allow the fewest shots in the league, dominate puck possession, have more speed than any other team, and is powered by Coach Q's stashe. Bolland is coming back soon which will only further help dominate on the defensive end, and yes the Hawks could very well add another d-man. Take it easy, we're talking about the best team in the league that accumulated their record despite missing their best player(Hossa) for 2 months, and have not had their 2nd Line C all season. Look where having the best goalie in the league got the Bruins last year. It's only one component, and when the team has no other flaws, fans have to complain about something. Exhale. We're ok.

    p.s.
yes "reptile" is a great track.
