OT - Private Info

As you know when you get e-mail from eBay it displays your ID along with your real full name. I received one of their payment reminders but it was for someone else. At first I thought my account was hacked because I never bought the item but then I saw the name. I now have the real name that goes with someone's eBay account. It makes me wonder who is getting my personal info. Has this happened to anyone else?

First I have heard of that. eBay should DEFINITELY be notified!

I went back thru some of the messages I've gotten from ebay and first I didn't see my real name, however upon closer review I found my real name in real small print also on the messages. Would seem to be a problem if you're real name isn' t on the messages and someone else's is. I would also notified ebay. Good luck with that, I tried once and it took me days before I actually found someone who could help. al.

Paypal messages are different, I've received those with my real name on them....sounds like a problem or fraudulent type of business to me....al. >>

I don't know if it shows up in the message part of eBay but it shows up if you open the actual e-mail. It is in small print above the large yellow bar that has the auction title. It states: eBay sent this message to "Your Name" (your eBay ID). Your registered name is included to show this message originated from eBay. Learn more.

No problem. I guess we were both typing at the same time. Getting older sucks. I remember the day when all of a sudden it hurt to lay on the living room floor while watching TV with my little cousin.

    I smell spam!

    Forward the email to spoof@ebay.com.

eBay will respond shortly afterwards with its assessment of the email.

I did. It is real. It also shows the seller ID, real name, city, state, & zip. The transaction is real. All of the eBay links on the e-mail work properly. I am calling them now.

I get fraudulant, fishing emails that are designed to look like they're from Ebay and/or Paypal on pretty much a weekly basis.
  • Getting clear help is a little difficult. One person said it looks like some type of error and another said spoof. Someone at the security center is going to get back to me. Over the years I have received many spoofs and rip off scams. If you know what the real e-mail should look like there is always some type of error that gives it away or the link address will be slightly different. If this is a spoof then it is the best I have ever seen and someone really did their homework.

If it really is from eBay, shouldn't the same email also be in your eBay message box?

  • I heard back from eBay yesterday. They confirmed that the e-mail is real and came from them. Their explanation made no sense. I guess they were going to do anything but admit they did something wrong. I guess we all have to hope someone is working on the problem image
