OT: Taking my chief's exam this morning.
For those of you on here that know me you probably know that I am a GM1 (Gunner's Mate 1st class) in the Navy. This morning in about 20 mins I'm going to be taking my Chief exam. It is a huge accomplishment to even make it far enough in my career to be saying that. Advancement to Chief Petty Officer is like being welcomed into the biggest fraternity in the world.
On a side note, for the few of you on here that may be savy to the Navy and would like to know what kind of GM I am. I am actually both a G (Guns) and an M (Missiles). However I have been a G for my entire career and an M for only about a year. Here's a pic of my baby:

Alright off I go to take my exam. Wish me luck.
Thanks,
Adam

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Good luck with the test, nice to see another Salem guy doing well.
Thanks,
Thank you for your service. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Best of luck with your exam. My son is an MA2 in Gaeta, Italy and has only 1 year left. Unless he re-enlists, he's reached his pinnacle!

ps.. that photo is the coolest,, you caught the projectile as its leaving the gun, thats a split second catch,, whoa
Nice picture, is that an Aegis Class Cruiser? It looks like you have a VLS in the bottom right, yes? I spent my surface time on a Spruance Class Destroyer (2 yrs) and then on a CGN (the now chopped up USS Long Beach - 3.5 yrs). After a shore tour where I terminated shore duty to get back to a sea billet, I got stationed at 2nd Mar Div in Camp Lejeune and deployed on a Gator Freighter.
If my memory serves me correctly, you should know the promotion numbers once the board convenes in June - hopefully they are generous with your rate. Good luck my fellow Red Sox friend.

That pic I posted is actually not a pic that I took, or even of a ship that I was on (although it is of an old Spruance class Destroyer which I did do a tour on). It was just the first to pop up on a quick google search that I did. However they are all the same. The gun is a MK45 5"/54cal LWGM(Light Weight Gun Mount). It fires 70lb projectiles 13 Nautical Miles at a rate of 20 rounds per minute. It is quite an intense feeling controling it, and is what I have prided my career off of. I actually was an instructor for the gun specialty school down at Dam Neck, VA before it was closed down. Now I teach an Ammunition Administration course.
I have done tours on 3 ships:
USS Nicholson (DD-982) (Spruance class Destroyer)
USS Vella Gulf (CG-72) (Ticonderoga Class Cruiser)
USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) (Nimitz Class Aircraft Carrier)
