Question about Serial #'d Cards

All things being equal, if a card is serial #'d to 299, is there any difference in value if the card is numbered 001 vs. 173, 280, 299, etc? Thanks.

there may be a slight premium for those card numbers that may match the players uniform # or for the first and last one

  • In my opinion there isnt, but some people do collect only certain serial #'d cards. I know people that only collect serial #'s that match the jersey number of the player, or people who collect only #1 or the last number in the series. So I guess you could get lucky with an auction if you find a few people that are willing to fight over that particular serial #! I dont see that affecting the overall value of the card without the right circumstance.

  • IMO, if a card is identical to the base card but is serial #'d to whatever, it serves no purpose other than to add artificial value. No different than an auto card that had 500 of them produced but the first 10 were in red ink instead of blue or black.
  • For Exquisite cards, there are some really big spenders if you hit the first, last or jersey numbered on any card. I think there were a few collectors going after low numbers on those so even a 3 or 5 would go for more. I think a lot of collectors who have a player they collect chase these mostly as something extra or at least I do. The only exception is when the card doesn't have many copies and the first to pop up is the jersey numbered one. If you are selling, don't hesitate to tout the number in your description as it can't hurt.
