Oh gentle reader, one caveat before you browse, please. Feel free to ignore the “hyperbole” in the descriptions as I am just previewing the language for future eBay listings. No such nonsense is necessary for the astute cadre of collectors on the Collectors Universe boards. Some of my colleagues may wish to don their best pair of wading boots.
Enjoy the images large enough that you don't have to wear your glasses! Please ask all the questions you like.
1929-S Finland 1 Markka Struck on a 1923 1 Markka – ANACS-50
An interesting double-struck, double-dated coin from Finland. The 1929-S 1 Markka was struck over a previously struck 1923 1 Markka. It looks like the original coin (1923) made its way into the coining chamber and was overstruck with about a 170 degree rotation. This can best be seen on the reverse where the original “1” is oriented from 1:30 to 7:30. A neat double-dated error that if it were a US coin would be worth several thousand dollars. Offered at $125.

1937 Lincoln Cent 10% Off-Center – NGC-65 RB
This is a beautiful example of a gem off-center Lincoln cent from the late 1930s. The coin has gorgeous toning and is a charming red-brown with great luster. The white flecks on the coin are small bits of plastic courtesy of NGC. Off-center cents from the 1930s are tough to find and rarely do they come this nice. Offered at $175.

1911-D Lincoln Cent Improper Alloy Mix (Woodgrain) – ICG-50 ***ON HOLD***
This coin is a wonderful example of an improper allow mix, sometimes referred to as a “woodgrain” appearance. While the effect of improper mix can be commonly seen on may Lincoln cents in the first half of the twentieth century, not many have such dramatic eye appeal. As a small bonus, there is a nice die crack on the reverse piercing the right “wheat ear.” Offered at $95

1944 Lincoln Cent Centered Broadstrike (Broadstruck) – NGC-65 RD
This is a gem broadstruck Lincoln cent from 1944. The broadstike is centered and shows a modest expansion over the normal cent diameter. The coin has a lovely red-brown toning and minor surface marks commensurate with a gem grade of 65. While the coin was designated by NGC as red, there is too much of a warm brown toning to warrant a full red. Perhaps the coin has toned in the holder. Offered at $110.

1968-D Lincoln Cent Struck on a Split Planchet – NGC
The title really says it all. The coin was struck on a planchet created from defective stock. Before striking, the planchet split resulting in a coin that was struck on a planchet weighing a mere 1.55 grams, or just over one-half the original planchet weight. Mint luster is still present on this interesting error. NGC does not assign grades to coins struck on split planchets and the label reflects such. Offered at $85.
